Quick question....should air units be able to transport tankettes? I am currently transporting a Japanese division via air, and I have transported 5 takettes thus far. I dont think you could do this in UV, so I thought I should check that we should be able to in WITP?

I'm not sure on the size of a tankette, but I'm pretty sure the japanese transports in WW 2 couldn't carry anything that large. I could be wrong and maybe they were large enough - but it all comes down to weight. But 9 transports should not be able to carry 1 tank between them if its too big for 1 plane (like a lot of the guns) then it shouldn't be hauled.

Thats pretty much what I was thinking Xargun....a tankette is probably about the size of a Stuart tank, maybe smaller depending on the model, but looking at the Japanese planes I dont think they could easily transport one (unless it was dismantled maybe?).

Tankettes can be as small as a Bren Carrier. Depends on the model we're talking about..

Just checked....they are type 92's. They are about 3.5 tons in weight and are about 10 x 5.4 x 5.3 feet in size. I am only guessing, but I think the weight would be okay? Not sure about the size though, unless they had some transports with large cargo doors.

I bet you're right. I don't think they had the transport capacity for something that big.

Hi,

I've read and re-read the manual but cannot find any info on any limitations on air transporting equipment , i've managed to transport 90mm AA guns and 40mm Bofors in PBY's.!
I know there were limitations in UV maybe it's been missed and should be added to the patch list?
Any Beta testers have any info?

Hi,

well, to me it looks more like a unit specific setting having gone AWOL. I have airlifted infantry units, baseforces and aviation engineers without trouble - as long as I left a small chunk of the unit behind to be transported/moved by some other means it was ok.

However, an allied EAB Unit (ye know, those guys used to build airstrips), it stopped about half ways - UV fashion. Scenatio 4.

I would agree though, about some omission in that area at present.

More info on this? I have yet to use air transport to move a unit. I know in UV it would transport only a part of the unit and that was it. It refused to move the rest. So is that still so in WitP???

Hi Z,

yes you can AL at least some units completely. However, it looks like the game - at least my copy - does not like it. After a complete AL of say an infantry unit, the unit "vanishes" from the map.

Have posted this before - possibly related to my rig/setup. Dunno.

I believe lift quality is based on load cost of an item as I can never airlift my big guns (100mm+). Usually the troops and everything else gets lifted fine, but the big guns get left behind to find a different way - land or sea.

If you managed to get it past the side cargo doors, weight might still be a problem. The C-47 maxes out at about 3 tons.

Well, things are getting a little confusing.

Assuming my install is ok - and nothing is upsetting WitP on my system, and I am still kinda straight ......[sm=party-smiley-012.gif] not counting the last cold one, of course.

Now: it is mid June in Scen. 4.

I wanted to remove a regiment of the 7th Div from Buna to PM - after repulsing an amphibious landing - all the troops are picked up from Buna by a transport group at PM. So far, so good. Except a small part of 8 x 81mm mortars. Well, me thought, pickup may work different from the other way round. I did send a squad of C-47s to Buna. While doing so, the reminder of my regiment at Buna got a 25 pounder. Guess what. The 25 pounder gets a lift by air, but the mortars do not.

Weeeellll .... Buna had no air support. SO I send in some - by air of course. Repeated the excercise. Same result. The mortars are not lifted to PM.

Either my install is all ahooo or someone should have a close look at the issue .... When tanks and trucks get service by the stewardesses - why not mortars ?

The Japanese had only copies of the DC-3 (C-47), they might have been DC-2's which are smaller than the DC-3. There is no way either could carry 7000 pounds. The tankette would also tear up the main cabin floor with their treads.
