Lou -> A thorny question (1/7/2002 2:00:00 PM)

I'm about to get back into armor modeling (along with SPWAW...yeah, I got time for that) and I was looking at a guidebook at Border's books last night. In this book, the author describe several methods to paint and detail a Sherman tank. It looked great, very realistic yet... All of the hatches on this model looked to be covered with spikes...say a scale six inches long. It looked like it would be a dandy way to keep unwanted visitors from the topside of the vehicle. However, I have never EVER seen anything like this before and I feel I have read a lot on the subject. Has anyone else seen spikes on the hatches of a Sherman...or any tank?

It's a new one on me.

The only use I know of is on USMC tanks in the Pacific. Used to keep Japanese from getting on top and throwing presents down the hatches.
Edit:
I read they were big-*** nails, welded into place. [ January 07, 2002: Message edited by: monsternav ]
