Morgan Schiff -> US carriers remaining in San Francisco... (7/11/2004 9:29:56 PM)

Playing as Japan. It's early March 1942 and I've taken Singapore, Manila, Bataan, Midway, Rabaul and many other lesser bases. My carriers are moving around the western Pacific smashing up hapless transport and weak surface combat TFs, as well as inflicting heavy losses on Allied air.

After 3 months I couldn't resist pausing to check what the AI was doing with ITS carriers. To my chagrin, the 5 USN CVs are docked in San Francisco, and they show no sign of wanting to come out for a scrap.

Sure it's ONLY the AI and all, but is the AI just going to wait for the Essex carriers before coming out en masse or are there certain event triggers (perhaps the fall of the Solomons bases and Port Moresby) or perhaps a time trigger (after May 1942?) before those US carriers will sally forth for battle?

Anyone? [:)]

Try upping the AI level. It might make it more aggressive (just a guess here).. and with the hurt you're dishing out it might make for a funner game, anyhoo [:)]

Occupy Lunga and they will come out.

What level are you playing at? The "Historical" AI is, the way I understand it, a basic training AI

Does that mean the AI actually gets better at higher difficulty levels rather than just get a bunch of positive modifiers?

Actually I took Lunga (Guadalcanal) in early Feb 1942 but the US carriers are still in SF a month later. [:)] Never mind, I will continue on my rampage at AI historical, perhaps threaten to completely sever communications between Australia and the US... that should work.

If that still doesn't work, maybe the fall of certain key bases (Lunga, Midway etc) could be made to trigger an aggressive US counter-moves regardless of Japanese strength - as was historically the case. [8D]
