Tanaka -> When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (7/12/2004 4:17:11 AM)

that it has to be in the same hex of the unit or it can be in the next hex over???

Tophat -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (7/12/2004 4:35:45 AM)

Hmnmm,
I have been operating on the assumption its the surrounding adjacent hex.....if i'm wrong its a big "Oooops"!!!

Tanaka -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 1:52:13 AM)

anyone know???

latosusi -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 1:55:16 AM)

Should be adjacent hex as well. Otherwise it should 0. It says radius after all.
Not that i notice any difference anyway.

Halsey -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 2:58:40 AM)

The range is counted from the inclusive hex. So a range of 1 means the hex it's in. A range of 9, is only 8 hexes.[;)]

Don't ask me why, it's just the way it is.[;)]

RevRick -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 3:41:36 AM)

That makes no sense. All number systems start with zero, and count upward, or down from there. This has also been true in every other game I have ever played. OY!!!

as opposed to aircraft ranges where 1 is the next hex over???

Halsey -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 3:54:17 AM)

You got it. It's just the way they did it. I have no explanation why.[:D]

Sure, but zero also means 'none' as in 'none command ability' [;)]

Knaust -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 9:59:34 AM)

damn...so must the HQ unit be in the same hex of the LCU?....plz reply

YES

or

NO

Halsey -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 12:49:47 PM)

Check the command range on the HQ. If it is one, that means it has to be in the same hex![:)]

steveh11Matrix -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 1:16:06 PM)

Well, at least I know this for the restart game...I think I understand why, but it's nice and counter-intuitive! [:(]

Steve.

Apollo11 -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 3:59:23 PM)

Hi all,

As far as I know 1 HEX means just the HEX the unit is in.

2 HEXes mean the HEX unit is in and 1 HEX away from it (and so on for 3, 4, 5... HEXes radis).

Knaust -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/4/2004 7:54:52 PM)

uhmmm...radius is a distance...
say, TF may move 1 hex, it doesn't mean that TF stays in its hex[8|]
so Command Radius 1 hex should mean that HQ give benefits to units in the same hex and units 1 hex far away[:-]

You would think so, wouldn't you?

But this is not the first time this question has been asked....

Well, you learn something new every day.

Can I go home now?

yep this is the same with air units. from what everyone says it appears it is only this way with HQ's.

HQ's are different... believe me... what I wrote is true... [:)]

Faulty premise. Remember that the hex itself has a radius. You are measuring command radius here, not movement radius. So, it is perfectly reasonable to see "command radius of one" as referring to the hex the HQ occupies.

In any event, that's just how it is, so we live with it.

Belce -> RE: When a HQ has a command radius of 1 does this mean... (11/6/2004 3:59:36 AM)

Looking at it from the point of design, all counting of range, radius should be consistent, just like the location of buttons like exit in information windows should be the same. Unfortuantely its not the case here and is a common neurosis throughout the game. So many aspects of this game's design need to be learned individually without having the benefit of using things learned in other places, like how to exit an information screen. It does add more than initial frustration as you learn this game, I think it adds to its overall charm and it may even be intentional, forcing you to look everywhere, be careful everywhere, to pay attention to the details.

Compare creating a TF to loading that TF with troops, its very different as well, but being able to see unit information on that screen is good to have and allows you have a look at formations at that point as you decide to load.

So looking at this game, you need to look at all of its sub components and learn each individually because only if each part is understood and used effectively will you have an oppurtunity to achieve hoped for results. I think the over riding design goal of this game is for a player to come away thinking that logistics and planning are the most important aspect and that these are truely difficult feats to accomplish well.

Well..not to be too pedantic..but a hexagon doesnt real have a radius anyway [;)]

Even if it were a circle the radius is only half of the diameter, so the command radius should be 1/2 [:D]

In any event..I have to go back and move a bunch of units around now [:@]

Well not to be too pedantic, but 1/2 also has no meaning for radius without the units. [;)]
