The weather was monsoon like weather over the region, Force Z had interdicted a IJN Surface TF and was withdrawing south, when something strange happened... 60Sqd RAF's Blenheims lunched a strike against the Damaged IJN Cruisers that Force Z had spotted & engaged the night before, it was not well coordinated, damage to the airstrip & loss and incapacitation of some of there number due to air raids form Jap aircraft based in China, combined with a long fight across the peninsular in bad weather it's amazing they found anything!! but they did! The first attack was made buy 2 aircraft.. the ship they attacked was identified all too late as "USS Pickerel" the too sticks of bombs missed fortunately, the other 4 air craft went on to attack 4 IJN CA's 2 60Sqds number failed to land back at base a hail of AA fire and the bad weather claiming them.. No hits were scored on the CA's.. The thing is "USS Pickerel" was not any where near Malaya... she had only left Manila a day earlier heading for patrol off Indo china.... HMS Electra one of the escorts of force had reported detecting and depth charging a sub off SE pinicular less than 60miles off shore claiming too hits a day prior to the action.. Maybe the wary 60sqd air crew miss identified an IJN sub as they were odiously in the area as Pickerel? There were also 4 Dutch subs operating within 180 miles of the sighting, one KIX class was damaged and withdrawing south a mere 60-120 miles NW... Ace bit of FOW what ever it was really makes you worry about your intelligence reports, Friendly fire too!! Well kind of! Ace! any one eles had this kind of thing happen? Also has to be said trying to play as all the allies is just over whelming! much easyer plaing half and half!
