Tommy -> M10 Wolverine name (1/8/2002 10:49:00 PM)

Hey Guys, Someone had a thread going about "how did the M10 get the name wolverine?" Since the search button is MIA, I can't find it. Take a look here: WWIIVehicles.com British Service: Used in Italy and France.
Wolverine: M10 and M10A1.
Archilles Mk IC: M10 with 17 pdr. Late 1944.
Archilles Mk IIC: M10A1 with 17 pdr. Used in early 1945 with 21st Army Group. Another clue that the Brits did it. Tommy

The original thread is back at Dec 30, 8:08 PM if you're still looking. Hilarious "from" you have BTW. :-)

Yes, US designations were not officially "named", rather referred to by "M-number". Which could be confusing to say the least. Unofficially, Brit names were coopted to more accurately distinguish different equipment with the same designator.
(same with aircraft, actually.)
