I ran into this first time yesterday, thought it was because of old DX-drivers and not being patched up or something.

Spent yesterday evening patching myself up both OS (Win XP Pro SP1 Build 2600.xps2.030422-1633, newest patches and DX) and WiTP wise (v1.10 + regpatch).

I'm running WiTP on a IBM t40p laptop. It has a ATI MOBILITY FIRE GL 9000, ati2mtag.sys version is 6.14.10.6422. The laptop has an integrated SoundMAX chip and it's up to date too.

Now I ran to exactly the same thing and I can reproduce it. If I set Night Fighters to do a sweep from Mandalay to Imphal,
when the execution phase starts it will crash the game to desktop. The crash yesterday also included night ops from Mandalay.

I have a save that reproduces the problem. Anyone interested? ;)

Since you have the save ... does renaming your sound directory get you past the crash spot?

Let my try.

Nope. I renamed sound to sound.old, started WiTP, loaded the save, ended the turn and at the same spot I CTD.

Please keep the save for Kid. I assume you have both patches installed?

Yes.

I've had a similar problem with contested night bombing attacks. The program starts the attack, identifies the planes attacking and then those intercepting as CAP, but then it fails to start the combat animation. It pauses for a second or two and then crashes to the desktop. I have found however, that you can prevent the crash by hitting the ESC key during the pause. If you do this, the combat animation starts and the simulation continues without further incident.

I dont CTD, but my game locks up with night attacks. I've just been alt-tab'ing and then it comes back, but the screen is all wonky afterwords. If I dont alt-tab it the game will just sit and never actually conduct the attack.

Your symptoms are exactly the same as mine. This is what happens to me also. I'll try ESC when I get home from work.

Same here no CTD, but the game just hangs and I have to alt-tab to get it going. Also the no-sound fix does not help.
