mavraam -> Question on TF screen for air TF (7/19/2004 4:57:30 PM)

What exactly does the number to the right of the field carrier aircraft in the upper left hand corner mean?

The manual (page 66) says its the number of carrier aircraft currently available but I've seen on numerous occasions it set to '0' but my TF still engaged in offensive air sorties.

I beleive this is the number of Carrier Replacement aircraft in the pool.

It appears to be the total number of planes in the TF. Funny thing is when you transfer planes off the TF it's the only number that shows the correct number of A/C. The TF selection screen shows the incorrect number and when you hover your mouse over the TF it also shows the incorrect number of A/C.

The odd thing is, when it reads 0, I can click on it and check the planes I have and it shows multiple planes and pilots available. And the TF still engages in air missions.

This does not seem to conform with what the manual says.

I had been using this to determine when my TF was out of supplies and needed to return to base untill I noticed one of them on the way home atack an enemy TF! Since then I have noticed no real correlation between this going to 0 and my TF becoming incapable of air ops.

Without this, how am I to determine when an air TF needs to return to port? .[&:]

When its endurance numbers turn red? But then I can replenish the TF at sea with a replenish unit but, the carrier aircraft field will still say 0.

So is it replenished? If I take the TF to port and replenish there, the number jumps back up to the correct number of aircraft and shows the number and pct of available sorties.

One the individual TF screen upper left 4th line down is an MS: this is a total number of missions the current TF can perform. A percentage is also listed next to it. AC will keep performing strike mission as long as you stay above 0%.

I seem to remember reading that not every type of mission uses up MS points. CAP uses less then a strike mission. Think of it as the number of bombs and AVGas on board.

That makes sense only I'm sure my TF's have done offensive missions. Would they send out planes on bombing runs without bombs just because that is their selected mission?

The TF screen that only shows the ships in that TF is where you look for the MS. If you select the "all TF in the hex" screen it shows a column for ACs. That number is buggy. Sometimes it shows number of aircraft in each TF sometimes it shows 0 for every TF air combat or not. I don't use at all and micro manage from the individual TF screen.

So far I’ve never let the mission number go below 20% so I can't comment on launching offensive strikes with 0 mission left. When mine get down below 40% I go back to resupply, usually very fast.
