when i actually get this game thats what ill be doing!!

does anyone else do this? have movies playing in the background while playing the games? based on the games?

e.g medal of honor + Saving Private ryan!!

dtravel -> RE: Every Time... (7/20/2004 10:15:42 PM)

I would think that you would want to watch the movies first, before the game arrives.

Then, when you actually have the game you could, I dunno, play the game?

[:D]

UncleBuck -> RE: Every Time... (7/20/2004 10:29:26 PM)

I watch movies while waiting for turn resolution. But, I mostly do Honey-do's during turn resolution. Makes for a Happier GF.

IanAM -> RE: Every Time... (7/20/2004 10:33:01 PM)

Sadly, I have played Highway to the Reich whilst A Bridge Too Far has been showing on the TV...

freeboy -> RE: Every Time... (7/20/2004 11:41:03 PM)

True story.. went to Newfoundland on Vacation with the wife in '91.. go if you can its beautiful... Ice burgs, whales, largest moose I ever saw... etc etc... anyway.. the generation growing up when we where there was the first to have.. electricity, paved roads, reliable phones..that was on the western shore.. eastern has St. Johns.. I think thats it .. surely they had all this earlier...
So being from Scotland is not any reason to not have seen Tora Tora Tora..... dvd and vhs.. probably beta too if thats your thing... but really how old are u ?? ok.. I'll even tell first, I'm 42 ur is it 43? [:D] no 41.. thats right
has anyone seen my marbles, I knew I had them here when I started reading this thread....

UncleBuck -> RE: Every Time... (7/20/2004 11:42:36 PM)

Andy do you read? If you do there are some great books over on Spooky's site and I am sure others here could give you other titles about WW2. Movies are great but all are of in their History at some point.

One very good Documovie that you can pick up online is Victory at Sea. it has actual combat footage, a sound track that cannot be beat and is pretty darned honest with it's assesments and figures. It is riviting.

Makes "Pearl Harbor" look like a high school play

freeboy -> RE: Every Time... (7/20/2004 11:51:06 PM)

But pearl harbor had one pilot fly in battle of Britan, Pearl Harbor and the Doolittle raid.. it at least gets my vote for movies that stretch credibility..[:D]

UncleBuck -> RE: Every Time... (7/20/2004 11:51:18 PM)

Not to mention Tora Tora Tora is actually a history based movie nto liek Pearl Harbor. It was a Pacific version of a Yank in the RAF. Not bad Cinema but a bad war movie.

freeboy -> RE: Every Time... (7/20/2004 11:52:18 PM)

Well, I am always happy to see young un's playing this game. (New blood) Not all of us are advanced middle age flatulent couch potatoes. (I got called a smart a$$ for saying old fart)

I will refrain from any sheep comments, but will gladly raise my Laphroaig to you, and the islands in the north of Scotland. (One of them in particular, I'll let you guess)

Do you lads also say "Slaynte"?

If you've got a lot of time there is always the 26 hour World at War series! It has a fair amount of coverage of the Pac war although being Brittish it tends to focus a little more on the Euro-Theater. Still, best documentary I've ever seen. Tons of great footage and narated by Laurence Olivier. Doesn't get much better than that!

UncleBuck -> RE: Every Time... (7/21/2004 12:06:50 AM)

Yeah Pearl Harbor is only based on there was a war teh US and Japan were in it and oh yeah the US was attacked but two guys in love with the same girl shot down about 100 JP planes over pearl then they ended teh war with an attack on tokyo in Ultralites.

UB

UncleBuck -> RE: Every Time... (7/21/2004 12:08:15 AM)

I have that one as well, also I have Pacific War and European War done by I think CBS. I got those as gifts back in mid 90's.

Well, UB, you're not going to find too many folks here that though PH was anything but garbage... sorry, thinking of that movie is making me nauseous...

UncleBuck -> RE: Every Time... (7/21/2004 12:26:43 AM)

I agree with you I thought that movie was crap. As I said in my posts.

I do think the Japanese got off light. I mean with all those Arliegh Buke , Ticondaroga and Aegis cruisers there in Pearl Harbor, I mean how did we even let them drop a bomb?

hhhmmmm...my guess would be orkney or isle of skye! or maybe even the shetlands![;)]

it will probably be 'neds' who say slaynte, i usally try to avoid 'neds' at all costs particular when going to a celtic game!! where i come from theres not really a special word that every one uses!, the only i can remember livingston having was minted!!

Oban is from Skye IIRC. Actually it would be Islay.
If War in Europe is ever done, I will reinforce Islay heavily, since I need their product to keep my strategy plans flowing![;)]

andytimtim -> RE: Every Time... (7/21/2004 1:18:47 AM)

glad to hear it!!! just make sure you protect scotland!!![:D]
