What would be the chances for a mineclearing tank to:
a) detect an unknow minefield by moving into it;
b) successfully move into a previously detected minefield. I feel there is room for improvement in my mineclearing antics.

Hey Penetrator. a) I think they detect unknown minefields by moving into it, every and all the times they move in... 100% succesful
b) If I recall correctly, you must press the shift key to move in a previous detected minefield... 100% succesful But I am writting from memory...

I'd say it's not 100% because when I played as Brits in Europe 1943 I had a platoon of them and while some would find mines when entering hexes, a few did not and one got immobilized by a mine when entering the hex.

I recall one game that the Eng.Tanks detected all the mines adjacent (from one turn to another), don't know about detecting on entrance. And I had at least one tank distroyed when entered one detected minefield, I never tried the shift key though. BTW, Penetrator - how's your football? In a recent PBEM game my mineclearing tanks (PT-34) took the heaviest losses of all, mainly from moving into undiscovered mine hexes.
My mineclearing is still better than my football though...
