When doing transfers of ships between Noumeia and Brisbane as well as corrections of routine convoys suddenly gone astray, I've noticed that ships use a simplistic, single hexline route to their destination instead of a more direct, zigzag route. The worst part is that the routing takes no account of enemy airspace, so a convoy may choose to go directly across a dangerous area, then away, instead of away from danger first, then across to its destination.

I admit I haven't read the entire manual, even the printed version is difficult due to inordinately small type and I haven't found any reference to waypoints in the manual or in this forum. So, my questions are:

1. Are their waypoints available in UV or am I doing something wrong to cause my ships to take stupid routes?

2. If this is just the way the AI works, does the new War In The Pacific address this most basic of AI shortcomings or does it also require micromanagement to prevent your ships from straying into danger?

TIA!

1) WITP seems to adress this better, at least for air danger

2) there is a possibility to use waypoints in UV but it needs some work. A TF from Noumea to Gili Gili will for example sail close to Lunga and may be attacked by planes based here. If you want to sail more south, do the following:

a) create your TF in Noumea and give it loading orders
b) change its home base as Gili GIli (the destination hex)
c) give it a destination hex in the open sea S of Gili Gili

So the TF will sail to the destination open sea hex and once arrives here will sail to GG directly.

Good idea, thanks!
