I am playing the allies and have just hit the Yamato with 45 to 50 1000lbs bombs overs the last 3 turns, and none have penetrated the deck armour. what kills this beast, tac nuke Torpedoes or what. Or is this the FOW not letting on I have smashed this ship into the sand.

Well in reality Musashi took between 10-19 torps and 17 bombs whilst Yamato took 9-13 torps and 6 bombs. Their armour was designed to give immunity against a 1t bomb dropped from 15,000 feet and 18" shells out to 22,000-33,000 yards.

It will be interesting to try and use these things during daylight surface combat where safe. [:)]

Don't feel so bad. One of the reasons I am generally indifferent about attacking Pearl Harbor at the start of the game is that the 250 KG bombs dropped by Vals won't penetrate the deck armor of the old WWI battleships on Battleship Row.

Yamato has incredible armor. Too bad you cant spare a BB and just ram the damn thing.

According to one of the books I am reading (Morison's History of the Navy), the "bombs" that the Japanese were dropping were NOT their standard loadout. The were specially modified 16" AP shells that were designed specifically for Battleship Row. It also notes that they were NOT made by the British for the Japanese prior to the war. Gotta wonder where that rumor started.

One other interesting point on this is that you MAY be doing more damage then you think. In the game I'm running, I caught the IJN Mutsu with a flock of SBD's. I saw SEVERAL 1000lb bombs just give me a "Deck armor hit" result. In the end? She still sank to the bottom despite looking like they might have bounced off.

Might just have a burned out hulk there and not even realize it thanks to FOW.
