kptom -> KP and Virtual PC? (7/26/2004 5:32:40 PM)

Does anyone know if KP will work on a Macintosh running Virtual PC 6 (Windows XP home)? Don't really want to go out and buy a PC.

Hi there,
I have just bought a copy of KP and am running Version 6.1 of Virtual PC, with Win98 and XP emulated. Unfortunately, after installing ok, the game won't get past the initial title screen and I'm currently stumped as to how to get it running. Let me know if you solved this problem or if anyone has any tips, they'd be most welcome!
Greg

Breaker,
Without getting a reply, I just forged ahead, got VPC and went for it. And yes... It does work. I would get a very weird looking startup screen. Either mostly black or very funky purple and green colors. While in Windows, change your resolution to either 640x480, or 800x600, and things worked for me.

I am running VPC 6 on a 17" PowerBook, OS 10.3.5, 512MB RAM.

If you have any further, specific questions, I'd be happy to try and help.

And yes, BIN works also, as does WITP!!!

Whilst we dont support the use of pc emulators, we will try to help where we can.

The game attempts to change the resolution to 1024x768 to start, and requires 16 bit color resolution.

Hello gents,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my enquiry. Unfortunately, no matter what I do, I still get the same problem. I even reinstalled Virtual PC 6.1 (and updated using the 6.1.1 patch) to no avail.

I'm using a Powerbook G4 15", 1.5GHz with 768MB memory (384MB dedicated to XP).
I've changed resolution to 640 x 480, 600 x 800 and now 1024 x 768. I've also changed to 16bit colour. Still not dice. If I try to run the game from the desktop by clicking on the icon, it attempts to load then I get a warning signal and nothing more. If I drill down to the game directory and click on the KP game exe directly, the welcome screen appears (the tank flanked by infantry) then the game freezes. I can't get past it and have to do a force quit.

I've also tried various compatibility modes without success (same results).
Direct X is installed. KPTom, if you can get the game to run on your similar set up, why can't I? It's very frustrating after having shelled out on the game. I'm an SSG player from way back (SSG - please revisit your ACW games) and being Aussie, wanna support home grown product!

Thanks for any advice!
Greg

PS: just downloaded the patch/update from Justplay (bought the UK version on sale in Germany) - 1.11
Result: no change [:(]

Breaker,

I have been a wargamer since the mid 70’s

Fast forward to the mid 80's and the first home computers had various OS – Commmodore, Apple, IBM , Atari and I am sure there were plenty of others

My first computer wargame was RUN 5 by SSG. I found it in Napoleon’s in Pitt St.

It needed DOS so I bought my first Wintel machine.

And I continue to use them . Apple is inherently better but is not compatible with my hobby - wargaming

breaker2 -> RE: KP and Virtual PC - problem fixed! (1/14/2005 11:01:35 AM)

Yep, decided to try the KP Copy Protection Fix mentioned in this and SSG forums (thanks!) and although the alias on the desktop still wouldn't work (pointing to the start.exe icon), once I pointed it at the Korsun icon, the game started. What a relief!

I also had changed the path to c:\matrix games\
but don't know if this was a factor. Some have said that this helps with the UK/Europe version.

The fix is available at ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/KorsunPocket/KP_Protection-Fix_US-ONLY.zip

Now on to the gaming!
