Carey -> Regimental Mod (1/20/2002 6:14:00 PM)

I have had a cool idea for a mod: The units are split into regiments, real life ones. So England could have 'Royal Greenjackets', 'Paras', 'SAS', 'Marines',
'Commando', 'Royal Artilley', 'Household Cavalry' and so on. Each of the regiments would be certain units and each have their own characteristics like a regular unit. The Royal Greenjackets, being light infantry, would be able to move quicker. But each regiment has a few different units, like Household Cavalry could have all their tanks and stuff. Anyone think this could be a nice idea? If you are going to make it let me know and I can help you with regiments. Thanks

The idea is good but the only problem is that actually SPWAW is far from a regimental level ..we are still discussing many issues like for instance recon planes that are kept out of the design because they apply to a battalion level..
how much would it cost purchasing a division ?
probably a lot of points..and you also need larger battlefield.. on the other hand you should think to form new OOB where these units take place in part of brigades or companies...that's to say only a part of the whole force this way things could be nice but I fear the list of purchasing menu would become enormous...just think to how many kind of these brigade you can reprensent for each nation.. just a thought.. bye

My friend Scott Helm (also a Fan at Steel Panthers Fans) is working in TOE's for several Divisions for several contries for several years. His objective, a very valid one IMHO (in my humble opinion) and that I'm willing to support, is perhaps in the future to implement a PBEM league where one can only pick units from those TOE's up to a limit. Let's say you play a battle with 5000 points. Around 3500 would have to be picked from the TOE leaving the other 1500 to the player criteria. The final objective of course is to have PBEM games closer to historical accuracy. Carey, if it pleases you this matter, maybe you can help Scott in making some British TOE's. Let me know if you are interested.

Erm, sorry to pick holes, but it's 3 words; Royal Green Jackets, see? In WWII they were known as the King's Royal Rifle Corps, the Rifle Brigade, and the 41st and 52nd (Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. It would be difficult to give these regiments an equipment schedule or move bonus, as their many battalions were used in almost every conceivable role through the course of the war, from mechanized to airbourne!

Ooops, 43rd Light Infantry, I meant!

Carey -> (1/20/2002 8:50:00 PM)

Green Jacket are you in the Green Jackets? If so where? I am in them, Lt Carey at Aldershot Barracks.

Green Jacket -> (1/20/2002 10:56:00 PM)

Hello Lt! I served with 2RGJ 86-91, and a fearsomely warlike bunch we were!

Carey -> (1/21/2002 12:30:00 AM)

Cool. What rank did you get to? I joined as a 2nd Lt. straight from Sandhurst and I plan to go in for selection next year. Did you go for selection?

Green Jacket -> (1/21/2002 1:36:00 AM)

I obtained the dizzy heights of Rifleman, and vis selection you wouldn't find me volunteering for anything in the Brecon Beacons! Are RGJ officers allowed to use the word "cool" nowadays?! (We may find ourselves in the shat with the regulars if we continue this chat on this board. I will put a post in the Art of Wargaming forum if you would like to reply)

Bing -> (1/21/2002 1:51:00 AM)

You guys are not in trouble with this "regular" (irregular is more like it, per G&S, "Yes, you ARE rather triangular ..."). One of the aspects of W@W that keeps me coming back is contact with the professionals. Helps me - I think probably others too - to maintain perspective. If no one else minds, please continue the dialogue right here. Bing
