olivier_slith -> Is it possible to prioritize which ship is being repaired (7/27/2004 2:57:48 AM)

IF I have a CV in port and want to have it repaired ASAP before anything else. can I do it?

Take all other ships out of the port ;) Kidding aside, I think the repair rate is more about a "chance of repair" than actual repair, so it should be independent of how many other ships are in harbor - of course, I could be wrong as I am too often with this game. But hey, that's half the fun.

Knavey -> RE: Is it possible to prioritize which ship is being repaired (7/27/2004 4:23:59 AM)

I read a quote from one of the designers somewhere..."Ship repair is random".

Although I think several things factor into it as mentioned above. Number of ships damaged, repair points at the base, luck and I suspect ships classes may have priority somewhere in there.

Every turn there is a chance that a ship will be repaired. Sometimes, those dock workers just don't get around to it though.

I'm beginning to think my dock workers are on strike......grrrr. Don't these people know theres a war on?

If it is a port with a repair yard, then yes, moving out the rest of the ships is a good idea - this lets the yard spend points ONLY on the ship(s) you want. You can do some rough calculations to figure out how much the yard will support and still operate at maximum speed.

No repair yard is somewhat different, since it's not really clear if the number of ships present affects anything (it may, particularly in smaller ports, but it's not clear).

Every ship has a chance of repair even if not in port (down to 5 if not in port) due to crew repairs. If in port the chance is higher for all ships depending on size of port (the bigger the port the higher the bonus to repair chance for all ships).

A repair yard is different and seperate from the port size bonus as it has a limited amount of points to 'spend', these are used based on the total durability of the ships ie ship durability = 100, 100 repair points are used up from the shipyard, which will then double the repair rate of that ship but only that ship. So it pays to have the important ships in repair yards and perhaps just put the less important ships in bigger ports.

Then of course are the bonuses from Naval HQs and tenders, which increase the relative port size when determining repair chance bonus.

This is what I understand from dev/beta posts and the manual, hopefully if if have it wrong someone who knows the truth will post :)

2 questions I have -

1. When it says repair rate is doubled, does that mean repairs 2 points or double the chance of 1 point being repaired.

2. When a shipyard passes its repair effect onto a ship is the repair point guaranteed or is it just a bonus to the chance to remove a point. ie if a ship with durability 90 is in a port with a shipyard with 100 point shipyard (and no other ships are present) will it repair a point every day or will it just have a higher chance to repair a point every day.

Good questions Myros

Getting accurate info like this from the devs on the Repair functions is like pulling teeth it seems.

Knowing roughly how long it`s takes to bring down damage on Capitial ships , especially after giving sys damage to upgrades, is very important for your future plans.

Yes - but at the same time, IRL you never really know. You can only estimate. I don't think we should be able to project mathematically exactly when a ship is repaired. I like the FOW.

As far as i can tell all my ships in majopr ports (PH,SF) are getting worked on att he same time. Not very fast but the damage levels are reducing.
