Adamo -> Installing 8.2?? (7/31/2004 5:50:01 AM)

I recently reformatted my pc and I forgot to back up my version of SPWAW (7.1). I just DL'ed 8.2 but during the install I'm asked to 'Insert Disk #1'. I thought this was a free download. Am I doing something wrong??

Have you got all your OS updates? I have never seen a quiry for a disk whan installing. Did you get all 450Mb of the download?

Have you tried to delete it, then reinstall?

Hexed Gamer -> RE: Installing 8.2?? (7/31/2004 4:16:49 PM)

I sent a cd of a download to someone, they got this same enigmatic error too.

My advice, ditch the file and download a fresh copy. It is likely your download is corrupted in some fashion.

pilum40 -> RE: Installing 8.2?? .dll error (7/31/2004 7:44:46 PM)

I downloaded 8.2 from gamershe..and installed the game with no errors or glitches. When I click the start from the large splash screen it doesn't work. When I click the standard start link, Iget a windows error d3d9.dll missing...reinstalling might fix the problem.
anyone else have that issue? If so, how can I get the .dll and just drop it into the 8.2 folder?
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance...

How long ago was your download (it might matter). I ask, because they had some troubles with some of the download sources a few weeks (at most) back.

Plus, a fine no hassle install, might not mean the file was not corrupted (it happens) as the corrupted download might not reveal that state until after a successful install.

d3d9.dll

I am just guessing, but I think I have seen that file mentioned before, and I am not sure, but it might be a DirectX9 file.

It is not actually a file residing inside of the Steel Panthers game folder after install though (as I just discovered upon doing a system search here).
It's a Windows system file and is either put there during the install, or is not even part of the Steel Panthers game, and is merely required to run the game.
Thus, you might want to verify your install of DirectX9 is ok (if nothign else).

Start the game from MECH.EXE in Game folder, it should work, all you'll miss is intro, no loss.

It happened again!!!!

I went to Gamers Hell this time and the same thing happened. 'Insert Disk #1' blah,blah,blah

Please help, I want to play this game again.

Do I have to purchase one of the MC's in order to use 8.2? I have version 7.1 on disk somewhere, I could just use that, I guess.

Adamo, my sympathies go out to you.

No, you don't actually have to go out and actually buy the Mega Campaigns.

If you wish it, you can always request a member send you a burned to cd disk.

Steeler is the obvious Matrix Games choice currently.
He only asks you donate a small offering to a charity to earn the cd from him.

Gets you the cd copy mailed to you and your problem solved.

There are others that often will just dump a cd in the mail to you no questions asked. It all depends on how you ask and who you ask in the end.

I opften scratch my head wondering why so many people go through so much frustration over their download, when our community is literally knee deep in people willing to assist.

Heck, I have dsl, but if the download failed twice, even I would not waste time on a third try. I would just ask someone for help :)

Thanks Hexed, I'm actually in the process of finding my old 7.1 version that I saved on disk.I don't want to bother any of you guys. I just think this is the most puzzling thing. After 2 downloads I'm still getting the 'Install Disk #1' query. Very odd!

Call me a moron!!!

I was running the setup.exe file directly from Winzip and continued to get that 'disk' message. Somebody suggested that I extract the file to a folder and then run it and I just followed that advice and 'Wallah' (sp) it installed!

I can't wait to play!
