You want annoying ?? ... And thats back in the days before everyone had DSL or cable modems.. Try downloading 40 Meg on a 33.6 modem....

I've got a 56k modem that only once connected at better than 28.8k (in five years) and I'm trying to dl a 125MB patch... this is very frustrating. You guys all know that I love Matrix, 2by3, UV and WitP, but I'm a tad frustrated here. I've had my phone line tied up for 36 hours in the past two days and still have no patch...

Listen up boys. What I bought from you is a PREMIUM game. I paid as much for this game and its attendant mailed cd as I pay for two normal games. Then I go and have to jump through more !@#$ hoops to download a stupid patch than I do to E-File my taxes off of TurboTax.

Hi Doomonyou

First let me say I am sorry you are upset and having a problem. We want one most but all of our customers happy and we at Matrix feel that you have a fair beef. We will be making changes to make this process better.

David

Guys we are going to be putting the patches on our public FTP servers to help you along. The scenario patch is being worked on and Erik or myself will post here once its done.

Thanks David, I'll just go back to playing the game and wait further developments. I'm one of the few who have had the sound working...

bradfordkay -> A cooler head prevails... (8/1/2004 8:16:04 AM)

It's later, I've gotten in another turn, and I've had an epiphany. Internet Cafe.

To have an idea of how much time I have to budget, can some of you give me an idea as to how long it took to download the patch, as well as what type of connection was used? It's my busy season, so it would be nice to be able to budget the time.

TheHellPatrol -> RE: A cooler head prevails... (8/1/2004 8:37:43 AM)

DSL took me 34 minutes yesterday morning[:)].

Thanks, just so you know the sound has been working for almost everyone. The sound update came because we wanted to fix it for those having the problem and some of the new sounds didn't sound 100% the way we expected them to.

Platoonist -> RE: Matrix has shocked me with this Patch silliness. (8/1/2004 12:57:03 PM)

Whew! Finally got it downloaded and installed. Pretty much eight hours on the nose with a 56k modem. Many thanks to Erik, Marc, and Sundevil for all their assistance.[:D] [&o]

DBeves -> RE: Matrix has shocked me with this Patch silliness. (8/1/2004 2:21:26 PM)

Along with a lot of other people on this forum I find getting worked up over these issues bizarre.
I think what some people are trying to do is to apply the same principles of customer services to matrix as they would to a multi billion pound services company.
Matrix are a very small bunch of guys providing all of us with wargames we once could only dream about - and that we all have neither the time or skills to produce ourselves. They have every right to do whatever they want to protect the work they produce and if it has a few issues to iron out because of that - well maybe its because they don't have 2,000 people in their R&D / customer services department.
There simply is no argument that on on a time spent playing - enjoyment factor - versus money spent on the product - these wargames represent truly exceptional value for money.
I remember a time for instance - playing Advanced Squad leader - when I used to dream about having a game that I could rapidly set up scenarios from any period and play them out in a realistic and thrilling environment without having to remember pages of rules that made it a chore rather than a pleasure. Now I have all the Combat Mission Games. On a Dollar versus pleasure principle I simply have NEVER spent my hard earned cash on anything that represented greater value for money. Same goes for WITP.
The money I spend on their games is not buying a product - it is an investment in Matrix and Battlefront et al... so that they keep doing what they do and what I cannot. So if something goes a little wrong cause at heart these guys are wargamers rather than tycoons with thousands of staff to back them up - we so oh well and work it out with them to solve it...I simply don't think these guys are in ti to make vast amounts of money - but they have to make some to keep themselves going given the amount of time producing stuff this good takes ... We keep bitching about these silly things - they might think its not worth the trouble ... then where would we be ?

Arnir -> RE: Matrix has shocked me with this Patch silliness. (8/1/2004 7:10:03 PM)

To me, the issue is just plain civility. It's perfectly understandable to be upset when things don't go right, but it doesn't give anyone the right to become a jerk (not talking about anyone in particular - although you know who you are). I've been in too many stores, etc., where one ass is ranting and raving and yelling and making the rest of the customers very uncomfortable. I know that this is a tactic employed by some people to try to get the issue settled. However, I'm also a paying customer and I don't really appreciate having to deal with all the garbage and infantile posts. There is a proper way to complain and a temper tantrum way to complain. If they paid for the right to complain at the top of their lungs then I paid for the right to have a civil forum. I don't have a problem with people being upset, even losing it from time to time but the tone in here lately is problematic. There is a support forum, this isn't it.

This isn't meant to insult anyone but how hard is it to write down your serial number?!? I figured that if I ever re-installed I would need it again so I wrote it down. I'll get called a fanboy for this comment even though I'm not. I'm just also a paying customer who is tired of over the top complaints. Not complaints in general but whining, yelling, screaming, infantile, jerk complaints. I know, don't read it if you don't like it. But after a while not reading it comes down to I don't need this garbage and simply leaving.

Anyway, this was my vent. [:D] Have a nice day. [:)]

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix has shocked me with this Patch silliness. (8/1/2004 7:17:42 PM)

With all due respect, the last thing we need is a civil war here (pun intended). I think all that needs to be said in this thread has been said by both sides. Our interest at Matrix is to serve all our customers and at this point I think the best way is to let this thread go quietly into that good night...

All the patches have now been posted on public FTP, please see the patch threads. We decided that while we work to improve the Members Area to meet the standards we expect, the best thing would be to give our customers the most direct possible access to the patches. In the future, once improvements are made, we can migrate back there with a lot less frustration all around. Thanks everyone, this thread is being locked.

Regards,

- Erik
