I've heard some complaints about the unrealistic AI force slections some of you guys are facing in generated battles/campaigns, and in long campaigns. These issues have been addressed for the upcoming 8.2 patch. Long-campaign German players will no longer have to deal with masses of Polish ATRs in their first battles in 1939. They are still there, and are just as effective, but there will be fewer of them. You just gotta kill those b*stards with your infantry and MGs. Other nations should face you with more balanced mixes of armor/infantry/scouts/ engineers, depending on your mission. As for my favorite opponents, the Japanese, they are also balanced in both offense and defense, and will give you fits with their tenaciousness in any mission.

These changes and a few new additions are being worked on and could be available in a few weeks, but the timeframe for this is uncertain.

What IS certain is that Matrix will continue to offer support for SPWaW, via the forums and relations with fan sites.

Thanks for the good news!

Is the suggestion you made about making Naval guns and OB arty more expensive also included?

I'm currently playing a long Campaign against the Brits and the sheer number of OB arty and their exaggerated accuracy and overall effect drive me crazy!

KG Erwin -> RE: Playing Against the AI (8/4/2004 6:50:37 PM)

Losqualo, we did increase the price of the German 150mm SPAs, but the other arty was left alone. However, most mortars are now cheaper.

Better than nothing! [:)]

Losqualo, to answer your PM: nothing was changed about the default search & hit values for the AI opponent in 8.2. Now, as I recall, there may have been a correction on arty hit values when the pieces had a distinct height advantage over their targets, but that was in 8.1 or 8.0 , and it applied to ALL onboard direct-fire arty.

With the recent price reductions in mortars, I'm now able to add several 60mm mortars with support points. My USMC core force already has nine 60mm and four 81mm mortars, and I buy up to five more 60mm's in support. In a defend/delay mission, they are a tremendous help.

(Quick note on the 8.2 patch: the adjustments are still being tested and tweaked, so it will be several weeks before it is released. This is the only statement I will make regarding a time-frame, OK? )

Riun T -> RE: Playing Against the AI (8/6/2004 8:03:03 PM)

got a question onAI play was any consideration made for the computer to put offboard batterys adjacent to ammo dumps off board?? why can't we do tha???

........
Just remember don't shoot till ya see the whites of their gas permiable contacts, the glint of their crest white strips, and the smell of their panteen hair[:'(]

KG Erwin -> RE: Playing Against the AI (8/7/2004 12:15:33 AM)

Sorry, Riun, but off-board arty can't be reloaded. Otherwise, the game would degenerate into a godawful WWI-type set-piece artillery vs counterbattery match. No one wants that.

The only alternative is turning off a battery from each battalion ( this is what I do). See the buttons on the barrage screen? Click on the left one. This shows the guns. If you click on one of those guns, it's turned off (and the display turns red). In this way, a reserve is maintained for late battle usage. This is practicing ammo discipline.

Skotty702 -> RE: Playing Against the AI (8/7/2004 3:01:42 AM)

This is all well and good and I appreciate the work to be put into this. However, is there any chance that the retail General's Edition MCDF OOB inconsistancies be addressed in a future patch?[&:]
