SunDevil_MatrixForum -> A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 7:08:12 AM)

Is there anyway where I can find out the maximum port and airfield size of a beach (aka unbuilt spot to place a base) without having to invest the resources and manpower to start one up? Also, if not do they all have the port and airfield maximum size set to 1? Thanks for any feedback.

P.S. I am asking for an in-game ability.

I guess that second question can be answered if I open up the editor.

Drongo -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 10:11:00 AM)

Damn, I was sure I had a link saved somewhere for this.

Sundevil,

you know that you can click on any player controlled dot location and get the SPS.

Bodhi -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 10:53:42 AM)

Not in game, but the csv files I made on bases about a week ago have all this info (and more) for scenarios 2-15.

Thanks Bodhi.

Ignore the other posts [:D]

Move your mouse pointer over the base:

Notice the numbers for both port and air capacity in (). Those are the standard maximums.

You can build 3 past that number but each step takes longer and cost progressively more supplies.

This applies to every base there is *except* size 0 ports that can never be expanded.

One additional rule: (0) air capacities are special, they represent a very tough to build location and take a long time to go to 1.

SunDevil_MatrixForum -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 5:19:05 PM)

I am talking about empty islands, the beaches, the ones with a dot, that could become bases, but as of right now are just empty islands. How do I figure out what sizes those ports and airfields maximum size? [8D]

SunDevil_MatrixForum -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 5:34:05 PM)

Thank you for all the feedback. I will assume that there is no in-game method to see what the unbuilt potential base hex will have in terms of max build size for a port and airfield. I was just use the editor and/or reports that people put together.

Actually the method should be precisely the same as what Frag mentioned. Those are "unbuilt" bases and like the built up ones should have that information on them when you float your mouse over the base.

Nope try it yourself

Really?! Always worked in UV that way... [&:] I will try it... Got me curious now...

Look at the base panel ...

Add three to the 1 and 3 to the 0 just as described above.

SunDevil_MatrixForum -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 5:46:06 PM)

And when you click on any of the dots on any island and you get the base screen, all of them say 0(1) and 0(1) for the port and airfield. So either none of the under-developed islands can be built beyond the size of 4 or this is just default number that gets assigned to all islands and does not represent its true max size.

SunDevil_MatrixForum -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 5:46:58 PM)

So Mr. Frag that are the real sizes, for the most part I did not see much variation at all with any of the unbuilt islands.

2Stepper -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 5:48:56 PM)

I clicked on a few and saw the points that Frag mentions here... Only one makes me wonder... Using that model, Rennel Island isn't that big... Unless my history is faulty (always possible), I thought that was a larger base later in the war?!

Either way, that's your method.

SunDevil_MatrixForum -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 5:50:50 PM)

Which I guess is my point, when would anyone build a base on a new island? If they can not be expanded all that much. Thanks for the feeback everyone.

Correct, until you bring in the USA with their SeeBee units that were designed to do nothing but powerbuild bases out of nothing, they are just wasted space.

Japan simply doesn't have the abilities to turn them into much and even then, you can't keep enough troops there to do anything due to the spoilage rules and supply.

That's pretty much why so many of the little islands are not represented. They have no real value.

SunDevil_MatrixForum -> RE: A Question to the Beta Testers (8/5/2004 5:56:39 PM)

OK thank you very much for the information. I guess I will just use them for atomic bomb tests. Sunglasses anyone? [:D]
