Harpoon_GER -> Gameperformance increases by shutting off hexes? (8/5/2004 3:38:28 PM)

Since I turned of hex-display in the settings I recognized a huge performance increase (e.g. Computer turns resolved faster, Message display is faster which resulted in having to set a new delay time...etc).

Is there something wrong with hexes, something like a memory leak? The improvement was quiet noticable.

I tired this and it did speed things up a bit. The only long hang up is at "Training ship crews" which takes 2-3 minutes to process.

Good idea for players with slower computers.

Just a little explanation:

The hexed vs non-hexed maps are identical. They will run at exactly the same speed.

Turning on the roads or hexside overlays are serious horsepower hogs as that is being drawn on top of the map.

If you need to see something, pop them on to look, then turn them off. Running with them on all the time (R key or F6 key or 1, 2, 3 keys) will result in a *lot* of overhead on your system.

The same hold true for aircraft/ship range rings ... if you are faced with a slow machine, you can turn all these extras off then just toggle them on when you need to see it.

Thanks Frag.

It really did the trick. I updated to the new nvidia drivers and turned off the range rings and the game SCREAMS.. I'd say at least 50% faster.

I may actually get to finish the war in less time than history [:D]
