Alexander Seil -> Ability to play as ANY major power SEPARATELY... (8/7/2004 5:55:50 AM)

I would really love it if WiF sticks to the rules (of a game that I never played, bar playing the CWiF public beta against myself :p ), but I believe one rule is obsolete...why does China and France have to be bundled up with USA and USSR respectively? Why can't a player just play as [Free/Vichy] France for the entire game??? Or, say, why can't a player just play as China? Just because France fell doesn't mean it had to fall...however, putting USSR player in charge of it practically guarantees that. Obviously, the USSR player would focus on USSR rather than on France, making France an easy victim.

Why does China and France have to be bundled up with USA and USSR respectively?

This is to give the U.S.A. and U.S.S.R. players somthing to do while waiting to enter the war (IMO).

I have only seen one game where France did not fall. It was a nightmare for Germany (who conceded the game quickly).

[X(] If France Dosn't Fall: [X(]

(1) It can build a respectable airforce and use it to strategicly bomb Germany's industral base.
(2) It has plenty of leaders and units to sustain offensive air/land operations.
(3) The fleet is more than capable of detering "Italia Irredenta".
(4) Without outside sources France has to cut production for the oil to sustain a offensive. But If France has reached the point to do this Germany has serious problems.

To sumerize, France needs to fall.

MZLIN is correct. Russia and the US need something to do until 1941, so they get the French and Chinese. Of course, you could always have someone else play them individually. Would be pretty boring, but they could play.[>:]

Well, there is no reason not to allow someone to do so? I personally would like to play as France without having to bother about USSR's production and deployment.

Don't get me wrong. IF you wanted to do that you could. Would make for some quick turns for you while the AI or other players played the game.

I hope they make use of the computers strength and allow choice, and get not obsessed with old bored game rules.

To gbed: The reason it actually worries me is because the open beta (which was, mechanics-wise, practically a complete and finished game) that was floating around before Matrix took over did NOT let you play as China and France separately...

Yes, but it didn't have an AI. MWiF will. Perhaps that will change things.

I'm hoping for maximum flexibility as to which countries can be played. Hopefully the AI will be able to play one's allies if one only wishes to play a single power. I wonder how negotiation between the powers can be handled? Say, for example, one is playing Italy and wants to request resources from an AI Germany. How about co-ordinating grand strategy? Could the AI give one updates of the plan, ie "Hey Italy, Germany and Japan are trying to link up in India, so try to keep the Commonwealth busy in Mediterranean."

I suppose if the AI is playing one whole side there must be some mechanism for communicating between the powers, so perhaps something similar could be used for human/AI interaction.

Cheers
Neilster

Matrix could offer this at a later date.

But since they have posted "up to 6 players" it would have to be offered later as a patch.

If you were able to play as France, and I was able to play as Germany. It is conceivable the weather could be clear on the second impulse and I could attack Belgium with no losses. Then, if the turn lasted long enough, I could take Paris and you would have played exactly one turn of a 30+ turn game.
