KPAX -> Number of Days per turn ? (8/9/2004 5:41:23 PM)

Can someone give me their thoughts on the # of days they are setting for their turns?

for one of the shorter games, say like 30-90 day ones?

for a full campaign?

Anyone doing a daily turn for the full campaign ? How is that going?

Thanks !!

1 day turns are the only way to play IMO. But I micromanage the heck out of my game. Check every unit every turn etc.

Some have said 2 day turns have more of the "real" feeling.

I play single day turns in all scenairos. I have found it provides more ability to react to a changing situation. My part of each turn is about 5 to 15 minutes to reveiw each unit and make any needed moves, so single day turns do not add too much time to the game. I tired the other options with respect to the number of turns and found I was not able to react fast enough in certain situations.

Daily turns but

I look at things that were in combat or where I am preparing an attack every turn.

I look at major ports every 2-3 days (to see what has accumulated there)

I look at inactive areas (Aleutians, New Zealand) at decreasing frequency.

I do check almost everything the first of each month.

Always 1 turn.

3 days is the only way. Because
a) I have a life.
b) I like to think of it as giving the AI a little additional advantage beyond playing on 'hard'.

i go 1 day turns and kinda like what Beezle does, however i usually just hit next turn every other turn unless i have something that really needs my attention..that way i really do 2 turns at a time but with some flexibility

I play one day turns on everything but I have been tempted to try three day turns as the Japanese on one of the larger campaigns.

It would be neat if you could change the turn time on the fly during the game.If not much is happening and you are building up a invsion fleet or something the time can go really slow playing one day turns.

How about running continuous and hitting F9 when you want to invtervene. But that is a crashing bore (it means you have to sit there as the computer runs.

You can change the turn length from turn to turn (the "P" screen) then go away and have a coke or something while the turn processes (about 10 minutes on my machine)

Yes, but does the AI give orders during those three days or is it sitting and watching just like you?

solo = 1day

PBEM = 2day

Sneer -> RE: Number of Days per turn ? (8/10/2004 10:49:08 AM)

1 day turns (solo)
but I switch everything off and only read report ( summaries&animation off) + fast comp = 15-25 turns per day

DrewMatrix -> RE: Number of Days per turn ? (8/10/2004 6:47:55 PM)

I took a look at what I did last night while playing. It's a little different than what I thought. I don't actually play "fast turnaround turns" and "look at detail turns". I play daily turns spend about the same length of time on each turn, but I look at diffferent details from turn to turn. One turn I will go over Burma/South China air units in some detail, upgrading/rotating out/reassigning. Then I leave them alone for several turns and do something else.

The West Coast has a unit that could upgrade from B-17 to B-24 so I did, but now it will take a week or more to get all those plains undamaged, so I won't review that area for a week etc.

Most areas of the map only need review from time to time, but they do need to be looked at every so often to see if someone is out of supply or has units you now realize you have a use for.

WiTP_Dude -> RE: Number of Days per turn ? (8/10/2004 9:38:38 PM)

3-day turns for the big scenario in PBEM. Works fairly well, you just need to plan a few days out each time and be prepared for some surprises.

John B -> RE: Number of Days per turn ? (8/10/2004 9:43:05 PM)

1 day turns, but tend to only check on inactive theatres about once a week in game terms.

Rebel Yell -> RE: Number of Days per turn ? (8/10/2004 10:10:45 PM)

1 day turns. Serious micromanager.

Vaevictis_386 -> RE: Number of Days per turn ? (8/12/2004 12:57:40 AM)

3 Days

It makes things as a commander more realistic -- you get battle reports and then respond, you have to rely on your subordinates more.

Plus the game would take FOREVER otherwise.

3 day turns take long enough to resolve that I can actually get something done away from the computer.

Greco, Thomas A -> RE: Number of Days per turn ? (8/12/2004 2:08:27 AM)

One day at a time. Whenever I try 2 or 3 day turns I am suprised somewhere by those invincible Jap carriers. I'm playing full campaign and restarted when the patch came out; so its only early Feb 42. It was taking almost an hour to run each AI turn, but I upgraded to 516 RAM and 2.6GHz and now AI with no windows open is only 9 minute per 24 hours. Kids have to go to work to pay for all I've spent to play this game; but what the heck, I figure at 3 turns a day it will still take 6 months to play and thats still less than $1/hr.
