Dunhill_BKK -> Methods to your madness? (8/12/2004 9:59:50 AM)

I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on how to effectively track and engage enemy TFs.

I'm currently playing one of the shorter scenerios as the Japanese, and I'm just coming to grips with the task of taking out a TF composed of one CV, a couple CAs or CLs and various DDs without a CV of my own or any ships more powerful than a CA.

I'm trying land-based air power and subs at the moment, but I'm sure there are more interesting methods.

Without your own CV the only realistic option is LBA.

If you are sneaky you could pull off a mid-ocean intercept with surface forces, however first you need to find the CV's, find some fast ships, hope your recon guesses the carrier travel direction properly, guess what speed they are moving at and then get your ships into position without:

a) Being seen
b) Being sunk
c) Running out of fuel

Then you charge in and hope that your ships score some hits on carriers before the screening forces block their retreat :)

I believe someone pulled a couple off in UV, not sure about WiTP though - however the reduced long-range search effectiveness should make it a bit easier to at least get close.
