aspqrz02 -> RE: My advise.. don't use Wirraway's (9/8/2004 12:42:12 PM)

Of course, the upgrade path should be to Boomerangs. And thereby hangs an interesting tale. A couple of years ago a friend and I were in Melbourne (he'd never seen it, and I'd told him it was a hole, compared to Sydney ... he didn't believe me so we went down, and now he agrees [:D] and we went down to the RAAF museum where they had a display on the Boomerang. According to the details it was designed in an incredibly short space of time, c. 2-3 months, IIRC, from Wirraway components, mainly ... which is amazing enough in and of itself. The *really* strange thing was that it was designed by an Austrian or German refugee (forget whether he was Jewish or merely "political") who was classed as an "enemy alien" and had to report to the local Police Station daily [X(] I doubt anyone can top *that* story of weird aircraft origins [;)] Phil
