Lets see..
If you into games of strategy, and like sitting down plotting long term operations,i'd definately say that WiTP is for you. If you are mostly an RTS player, i'd say that its not the game for you as it requires quite a bit of patience.
1st) I thought a new game in the US cost around 60 or so dollars ? (im Norwegian). In any case, i'd say that if you like this type of strategy games, its definately worth it. Personally, i'd happily pay twice as much for a game like this.
2nd) The learning curve is pretty steep as there are a lot of things to attend to. You will pick up on things quickly though, at least i did :) (and i've never played Uncommon Valor which this is the big brother of). I've had a couple of peeks in the manual, picked up some tips on these forums, and learned to play through trial and error. After a few days, i felt comfortable with every aspect of the game (apart from japanese production, which i still dont dare fiddle with...lol).
3rd) General opinion of the game is that its the mother of all pacific strategy games. The hours i've invested in it already more than pays for what it cost, and its going to continue to provide me with entertainment for many many years. As to hotseat play, while i assume that is possible (i've not checked the multiplayer options), i dont know if it will be advisable unless you both have a *lot* of time on your hands [:)] The first turn, and the few subsequent ones are going to be the turns that requires most input, and will take hours. After that, a turn could pass in all from 5 minutes to 2 hours depending on what commands you need to enter. A hotseat game would probably only advance a few turns per evening tho :) And with over 1000 turns for the grand campaign, you and your friend would have 3 years entertainment just finishing it, hehe [;)]
