Yamashita -> Ammo trucks & depots ? (8/17/2004 6:16:44 PM)

Well I recently have started buying an ammo truck to keep my arty units happy & must say it Really is a firepowere multiplier; but beginning to feel a bit guilty about it.

What size force would generally get these kind of resources ?
I have heard of tanks rushing back, reloading& then going back into the fight. But I've also heard of units going into combat with less ammo than they should have.

Any thoughts on these units or how you like to employ them ??

Yes, for on-map artillery they are a must. In long scenarios, I've used them to resupply engineers, tanks, any unit. Against the computer AI you can get away with a dump, but the mobility of an ammo carrier is necessary against live opponents. An ammo carrier can also move around undetected behind a slope and resupply ATG's that are dug in on top of a hill. I often position my 88's so that they are right up against a rear slope for this purpose. Some people play with limited ammo off, but I like the added complexity.

Hello Yamashita, I also use roving ammo carriers much like Poopyhead but with alot more application than slope loading, although I like and use it. I uasually make a couple of what I call Incursian groups out of some more experienced units after a few battles and set them in out of the action sites to go their own way, I always give the ammo trucks their own security of at least Stuart size escort.
