Svar -> US CAG redistribution (8/17/2004 11:13:54 PM)

I have just about finished my v1.21 Scenario #16 mod test game. The date is currently 7/28/45 and I compiled data on each CAG about every 6 months from previous saves to figure out how the redistribution of US CAGs work. I think you need to put the CV into a port for replenishment before the changes listed in rule 19.4.2 take effect. I don't know if the size of the port matters. It appears that when the VS squadrons are removed in 1943 and the VB squadrons are increased to 36 A/C that a fragement VBF squadron is placed in Brisbane or Pearl harbor and equiped with SBDs until SB2Cs become available when some of them upgrade. BTW almost all of the CAGs are assigned to the West Coast which could be creating a problem. All of the respawned CVs have their VF squadrons located at San Fransisco while the bombers remain onboard the respawned CV. The respawned CV VFs never rejoin their CVs so those ships sail without fighter A/C. There are no A/C problems with the CAGs numbered 80 or higher because they enter the game with F4U-1D equipped VBFs. There is a problem with the CAGs that enter the game with VSs. Through 1944 the older CAGS operate with the correct number of VF and VB A/C depending on what the CAG has been set to at the last port replenishment. In 1945 the older CAGs will start to reduce the number of VB and VT A/C to accept the 36 F4U-1D VBF but for the most part that squadron never appears. On only two ships did I see a parent VBF squadron that started the game as a VS squadron and both of those ships were respawned CVs. The Yorktown gets VBF-5 in the 1/26/45 save equipped with 15 SB2Cs and never changes through 7/28/45. The Hornet gets VBF-8 in the 6/27/45 save equipped with 11 F4U-1Ds although the max allowed A/C is 36. By the 7/28/45 save VBF-8 has the allowed 36 A/C but they are SB2Cs so there is definately a bug here. Non of the 80+ number VBFs upgrade their F4U-1Ds for SB2Cs so the bug is in the VS conversion routine. Remember all those partial VBF squadrons are also equiped with dive bombers. There is another slight problem with the number of A/C in the 80+ Cags. Sometimes there is confusion just what the number of fighters and dive bombers should be. I have seen as many as 130 A/C on some of the later CVs because they have CAG allocation for late 1944 CAGs with the 36 VBF A/C already on board. By the 7/28/45 save all the 80+ CAGS were back down to 102 A/C allocation.
