Coyote27 -> tournament! (8/19/2004 3:36:20 AM)

Anybody interested in a tournament like from back in the old 1.4 days?

Tentative rules:
Single elimination / last man standing
Special teams
440 ton weight limit
No jock/titan number limit but every jock you make needs to fight
1500 experience for jocks
As much money as you need - it shouldn't affect anything

Count me in, someone has to make the first round easy for one of you veterans [;)]

I'm in .. tho' european times may make difficulties.

I would like to join as well. +8 GMT over here, though.

I'm -8 gmt (west-coastal US)... I can't play weekdays due to work, but I can on sat/sun and anytime after 4 my time, midnight gmt :-/

Also I'm thinking 1500 experience may be too little, maybe we should go for an even 2000.

I picked 440 tons for the weight limit, btw, because it's easy to divide many ways.

We could always use the tournament rules from the guide.

Peter Why -> RE: tournament! (8/31/2004 8:25:02 AM)

When's the start? ... or are you hoping for more to join? Best to run one with just a few; put battle reports on the forum to show how much fun it is, in hope of bigger turnout for the next.

If I may propose a format for the tournament.

All squads to be built according to the Ultra Tournament Rules per the guide.

Ultra Tournament Rules:
Money = 1,200,000
Skill = 2,000
Combat skills can be raised up to 80%, all others to 70%
4 Titans per Squad maximum
All Squad Jocks must fight
Random Battlefield

All squads are sent the tournament coordinator for approval at which point they can't be changed. When all teams are submitted, they are posted publically. The tournament itself consists of a round-robin qualifying round with the players with the best W/L records playing for the title. If there are enough players, the qualifying round would be limited to 3-5 matches to determine the top 4 seeds for a playoff match. Ties in W/L records are broken in the order most Kills made, least dead jocks suffered, most opposing ATs destroyed or disabled, least destroyed or disabled ATs suffered, and drawn lots.

I don't know if modified or custom ATs should be allowed. I'd like to say yes, but that does allow for a little abuse if you get a hardcore gamist in the mix.

People might want to keep a copy of the final autosave in case a dispute comes up ... but I think everyone can be trusted to honestly report the outcome of matches.

Ultra tournament rules are ok. We do need to agree on the WS version we're running and which titans database we have. I will use 1.2.0 and the latest updated database unless we agree different.

Peter Why -> RE: tournament! (9/5/2004 10:18:53 PM)

Make that version 1.2.1!

Coyote27 -> RE: tournament! (9/6/2004 12:01:04 AM)

I'd strike the 4 titan maximum, personally, I don't see why it would be bad to use two mediums and six recons. It's a valid strategy.

Also, allowing only "stock" titans from the unofficial database would serve to give the advantage to those who remember them better. OTOH if everyone uses titans that are unique, or at least renamed, it levels out the uncertainty factor to include everyone.

As for why I recommended allowing as much money as you want - this is so if you put your team together and don't like how it plays after the first round, you can adapt it by using different titans, since you'd be more able to afford them...
