TheZel66 -> operation watchtower question/comment (2/9/2002 3:37:00 AM)

While playing MC-Watchtower for a few weeks now, the one thing i've noticed is what bad-asses the Marines are/were.. I always thought the Japanese army was tough, but the Marines in watchtower usually tear through them like Sherman through Georgia (sorry WB). Is this completely realistic? Or am I just a great Steel Panthers player???

My understanding is, yes, the Marines were good; but the Australians were better . The Japanese were often really tough dudes, but in the early part of the war were fighting inferior troops (someone is really going to get upset at me for that...) and later in the war were often lacking food, equipment, ammo and hope...

"My understanding is, yes, the Marines were good; but the Australians were better " Suggestion: If a Marine is in the same room when you make this statement, you had better either be the fastest dude on the block, or the toughest dude. USMC was second to none. Who says the Australians were "better"? They fought with great courage and N. Guinea would most likely not have been possible without them, but in no way does that make them "better" than Marines. You have sources to show Aussies were "better" than US Marines? I was raised by a China Marine - there weren't any tougher, you can take the Marine Corps commandant's word for it. Bing

Hi, OK now go back to prefences and turn C&C on, true troop on, reduced squad and ammo on, and all those arty armour inf numbers to xxx. I was in the Marines, I like Marines. I also like Aussies. Americans who think they can drink beer should try playing "One red hen" with a few Aussies. I have a load of respect for various military organazations but I can think of none I would rather be in combat alongside. Not only can they fight, they always know where to find booze and they have really entertaining sense of humour. This is talk in a circle one. There are 8 sayings (see below); to start, everyone takes it in turn to say the first one. The next round, everyone takes it in turn to say the first, followed by the second, and so on. Its important to say them exactly, including the "ands" where appropriate. If someone buggers up, the drink 4 fingers and have to try again until they get it right!
Sayings:
One red necked hen.
And two cute ducks.
Three brown bears,
Four running hares.
Five fat females sitting sipping scotch and smoking cigarettes.
Six saucy sailors sailing the seven seas and singing sea shantys.
Seven slit sheets slit by slippery Sam the professional sheet slitter.
Eight enourmous earls eating eclairs and entertaining Easy Elsie upstairs. the Aussie I learned it from (a Chief Petty Officer in Aussie Navy) used to go into the EM Club and get a dozen sailors or what not to ante up 5 bucks a piece and put it in a pitcher, the winner is the guy who can take the money after every other player is too drunk to stop them. (hint the Aussies always won and then used the money to go into town and DRINK!!!) [ February 08, 2002: Message edited by: Mogami ]

The Marines are tough! They had to be to survive on the Canal. (Sherman through Georgia, huh? We shoulda had some Marines ) In some scenarios you'll find the Japanese nearly overpowering. In others as you learn how to fight them, and as the morale and skill of your troops build, you will have a little easier time of it. Plus you are probably a top notch player, Zel. That could have a lot to do with it. Thanks for getting MC-W. I hope you enjoy it. Wild Bill
