gts2096 -> Leaders (8/25/2004 2:04:50 AM)

using Caltone's leader spreadsheet i have a question?

here are 2 carrier TF commanders and their ratings

McCain J. overall 54 insp 53 surface ships 22 airops 75
Bellinger, P.N.L overall 64 insp 64 surface ships 54 airops 67

Which is the better Carrier TF Commander???

gts2096 -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 5:23:37 AM)

Hey gang, I'm waiting patiently in Nouma for orders on who to send out......[:D][:D][:D]

Herrbear -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 6:10:20 AM)

I would go with Bellinger

Central Blue -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 6:11:41 AM)

send McCain.

Tankerace -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 6:15:25 AM)

I usually use Bellinger first, then McCain.

Caltone -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 6:15:31 AM)

I was just checking them both out in the file [:D]

I agree Bellinger is the better choice, in addition to the above stats he also has a slight edge in aggressiveness, something I want in my CV commanders [8D]

gts2096 -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 6:18:02 AM)

And your reasoning behind these orders.......[:)]

Caltone -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 6:22:24 AM)

For me at least (and I usually play Japan):

If you look at the stats you listed, Bellinger has the edge in everything but airops where he is 8 pts under. Both men do have good airop ratings though, they are in the top 3 in US RADM's. While airops is a primary need for a CV commander, I think Bellinger's edge in inspiration and aggressiveness tips the scales in his favor. You are making a good choice with either man though.

So, do you think "overall" is the standard by which Carrier TF commanders are picked? McCain has a better "air-ops"....How are you deciding?

Caltone -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 6:24:24 AM)

Think I snuck a reply in as you were posting gts, hope that's what you were looking for. Really you can't go wrong with either man, the other US RADM to consider is Spruance of course.

Yes, you answered my question.[&o] Its just a shame that we don't have a little bit more info. about commanders when "in-game" and trying to make a choice. Your spread sheet is a blessing......[:)]

Central Blue -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 6:41:17 AM)

So far as I know, Bellinger never commanded a carrier, much less a task force during the war, much less put to sea. He does seem to have been one OG's of aviation in the Navy.

But, maybe you should follow the game numbers, where ever they come from.

Pretty sure it is.

tsimmonds -> RE: Leaders (8/25/2004 2:22:51 PM)

Pretty sure he's his grandfather. His father was also a naval officer of some note.
