BRZ -> Looking for 'lost' ENG (8/25/2004 11:07:22 PM)

Playing on Scenario 04, after a quick rush and holding of Guadacanal; After 2 months, the Japanese AI made their move and with a INF and 2 ENG, I tried to save at least one of them to Lungaville.

So as they landed, I started to air 'pick up' the ENG unit, with the PBY and the Dakotas, 8 squadrons, and made a Fast TP TF to remove the heavy equipment. All went well, every day the unit regrouped in Lungaville, till the time that the TF arrived, it completed the unit, but it still said xxx/1, as it wasn't a parent unit, but there wasn't anyother part of it around, nor in ships.

Them when I clicked on it, it popped the TOE and when I closed the window, the unit vanished...

Big question is, have you patched the game? There's a known bug in 1.0 that when moving units by air transport they just vanish. My suggestion would be to patch up to 1.20 then 1.21 and try it then. If its still happening, follow up the bug report with another. Cause that'd still be a problem. Ensure when you do that you include as much information as possible so they can fix it if its still occuring after the patch.

I have just encountered this problem too. But I think I may have found a way around it.

I had the 101st Aviation Rgt at Jorhut, India and started to transport them by air to Chengtu, China. The first turn, the part of the unit in Chengtu had the "/1" behind it. This continued until the unit finished transport when it DISAPPEARED! [&:] I backed up my game a few turned...just before the last section of the unit was due to be transported. (The "/1" part was still in Chengtu.) I stopped the transport process before the last section was to be airlifted and ended the orders phase. After everything completed being moved/resolved, I checked on the unit again. This time, the "/1" label was attached to the part of the unit in Jorhut. Chengtu had the part labeled as the parent, without the "/1". I then ordered the completion of the transport and during the move/resolution process, I saw the message that the 'sub-parts of 101st Aviation Rgt. are reuniting'. When I was able to check on the unit again, it was all in one piece in Chengtu. (For the record, I'm using version 1.21) [:D]

Game started with 1.21

I would love *that* save [:)]

I have recently ran across a similar issue in my 1.2 patched game. I decided to air-lift badly depleted 1st and 2nd Birma Rifles from Lashio to Imphal. The units were do badly depleted that they could be picked up by a single squadron of Dakotas in a single day. After the first day, I saw "1st Birma Rifles sub-units are merging" and then the unit disappeared. I decided to test further and ordered 2nd Birma Rifles to be picked up on the next day - similarly after seeing a message about sub-units merging, 2nd Birma Rifles have disappeared. Now, I know that during the 1942 retreat most of Burmans stay behind to protect their families rather then to leave for India with their units but, even in a game of WiTP's scope, i did not think that this would be modelled :)

There was one other thing about the 'disappearing' ENG, 101st Aviation Rgt., that I forgot to mention. After the last section of the unit was transported and the unit 'disappeared' from the game map...the Aviation Support at Chengtu (the base the unit had been transported to) showed an increase of 270 - exactly the aviation support the unit provided. So...no unit visible but the aviation support was there.
It seems to me that when the first section of the unit is transported, it should have the designation of the parent, with the remainder having the "/1" label...like when you rebase an air unit...rather than the other way around. It's when the part with the parent label finally catches up with the "/1" that the unit disappears.

It's always those "I forgot to mention" things that often hold the critical information or clue!

In this case that the unit did indeed transfer to Chengtu as the base deatils were showing 270 avaition support. so the issue deals with the graphic not being displayed after the unit completes its transfer. Now that helps giving us a place to start looking...

When it come to bugs and strange things you can NEVER provide too much detail when reporting these things be verbose as posible it helps.

Yep, after reading this, I noticed this behavior too.

Hmpf... had the same happen in my campaign.
Just as I thought I'd get to try paratroopers for the first time, they were nowhere to be found.

I airlifted them from Lunga to Shortlands with 3 C47 squads, then brought in 3 more squads to finish the transport of 503rd US para's - then they were nowhere to be found.

Also got the saved game before and after.. and before I even began the transfer in first place.
Let me know if it's needed...
