So,, where do u guys use the AVG for maximum effect?

Split into group or united?
Reinforcing other theaters or staying in China?

Very dependant on who you are playing ... the AVG is a shock element against humans where you move it around and surprise them.

The AI doesn't think that way so it is not going to lay traps for you with A6M's and you are more free to use it.

Depends on your opponent - vs. the AI (which is not very aggressive in China most of the time) it comes in handy in Burma. In PBEM it may be neccessary to deploy it in China to protect the chinese industry, if the Japanese player attacks the industry with City Attacks. It may score quite a lot against the Japanese there. But in every case split it and rotate the sub-units!

How do you split squadrons? I have only been able to create them by transferring ready planes to another base, then using those damaged original aircraft at the original base as part of another squadron as they are repaired. Is there another way?

Look in the lower left corner of the unit info screen. There is a divide unit button in the same place as where it would be on an LCU.

Lower left corner of the aircraft panel ... you'll see a divide unit button.

This applies to groups, not squadrons. A squadron is already considered path of a group so it's for game purposes already split.

Thanks! I haven't utilized split LCUs either. I quit doing that back in UV when it seemed to be a gamey unrealistic way of growing extra Base or other Eng units. I'm sure there are instances when it makes sense.

Units in WitP are an order of scale higher then in UV.

You'll see a Division in WitP. In UV, that would have been 3 INF units, 1 ENG and 1 HQ.

I've used them in my pbem game in Singapore and Rangoon. I've broken them up into their squadons and rotated them out of Singapore. Of course if the Japanese want to shut down singapore they can by throwing enough bombers at it.. but they will be bombers he can't use elswhere and the AVG will take their toll. IN my first month of a PBEM game the AVG has over 80 kills. Almost half of all air to air kills on the allied side.

Also, be aware that the ratings of the individual commanders of the A/B/C squadrons of AVG are substantially better than the default commander of AVG when it's one large unit. I'm fairly sure this greatly impacts it's effectivness.
