52nd Lowland -> Best Allied '44 strategy.... (8/30/2004 1:51:59 AM)

Any ideas/thoughts on the Allied strategy for the Pacific '44 onwards ? Im playing against the AI atm and have cleared New Guinea and preparing for invading Guam,Tinian and Saipan.I intend to follow roughly the same strategy as historical for the Central Pacific but not sure whether to invade the Phillipines or instead concentrate on the DEI and an advance north west towards Singapore.

Take out the DEI - Likely to be less heavily defended, and you're cutting out the resources and oil Japan needs. Her armies and air forces will be shells of themselves without those supplies.

I'd pass up on New Guinea as well. Go straight to the Marianas with all your carriers and large assault convoys, take those islands, start bombing Japan for major VPs.

Then go after the DEI to cut off Japanese resources and oil. Use your carriers to support this move with lots of engineers to rapidly build up airfields for your land based air, to further support the effort.

You have enough with Eniwetok, and the Marshalls to keep the supply line to the Marianas open, so throw everything into the DEI after you get the Marianas.

I would even hold off on a big drive in Burma, and use the British/Indian army in amphibious ops in the DEI.

I might be tempted to grab Wewak or some similar NG base - something about halfway down that you can base some bombers at to interdict any supply into Rabaul/Kavieng.

You already start the 44 scenario with the Admiralty Islands, Aitiape and Hollandia, so you don't need any more bases to cut off Rabaul.
