Portuguese Mercenary -> Terrain effect and armoured vehicules (8/31/2004 11:55:04 PM)

I know that my infantry units get some protection from terrain as they are less likely to ge hit in buildings, trenches and forest hexes. My question is: Do tanks and other vehicules get terrain protection too? It's not like they can duck and hide...

I'm playing a LV megacampaign scenario where this can be very important [:'(]

Yes it is very important when you will be faced those Soviet KV-1, KV-2 and T-34.[:D]
Use the ground at your advantage for your Pz-III, Pz-IV and Stug-III.[;)] Hide them waiting for those monsters...

yes there´s some sort of size reduction for units in a particular terrain. That makes them more difficult to hit/kill basically. There´s also some hull down modifier when vehicles are stationed in a rough and entrenchment (sandbags) hex, as well as when positioned higher than an nenmy unit. The game manual has specific details about it, so I recommend some more reading of it.[;)]

Also remember that terrain can work to your disadvantage. Enemies at higher and lower elevations are more likely to score a top or bottom hit on your tin cans.

How well does it work in practice though?

I'play SPWAW all the time and I dont get the feeling that the so called Hull down for rough does a whole lot of good. I still do it - because it is drummed into me from SP1 - but still does anyone know the exact beneifts?

Does enemy chances to hit the tank get smaller overall? In that case how much?
or
Can only the turret get hit - all other would be hits gets diregarded as they "hit the terrain" instead?
or
Is it a combination of the two??

Would be sweet to know..
