Badu -> Some noob production questions (9/1/2004 1:38:36 AM)

As i plan to play as japan i have do think about how production works.
After i read through this forum i really get a clue how aircraft production work.
Thx too all posters so far and too spookys great site.
But i have no idea if it is good or not too expand my industry at the start or not.
Can i effort expanding my aircraft industry at the start ( engiens and assemblys) or must i increase the HI first?

If you can go in the detail plz.

Don't do too much the first few turns. Most people seem to screw up by putting all their industrial capacity into expanding their industry and none into actually making the supplies they need, so the run short of supply in a few months.

The starting conditions aren't too bad. After a month or two, consider some small adustments, particularly if some A/C model is piling up. Turning the production off temporarily is a small adjustment. Changing the factory to something else is a big adjustment.

First thing I always do on turn 1 as japan is to turn the following aircraft production off:

All Nates, Claudes and Idas... Jan 1 42 all Nate factories are supposed to upgrade to researching Oscars and if the computer does the upgrade you don't lose any factories..
You start with like 700 Nates in the pool and if you go through that many in the year until the Oscars come online, something is definately wrong - the nate isn't a bad plane, but not a match for anything the allies have except the dutch fighters, chinese fighters and the buffalo - hell a kid with a BB gun is a match for buffalos...

Also Jan 1 42 all Claudes are supposed to upgrade to Zeros for free as well - once more you don't lose any factories. The replacement for the zero (the Zeke) comes in early 43 I believe, so you will need a lot of Zeros to go around - not just for your CV air groups but for the land based ones too.. Zeros are great for the first couple months, then they start falling behind against the newer allied fighters, but they still have great range - they just need better firepower.

As for Idas you simply don't need them.. I believe you start with a 27 & a 12 plane group and will not get anymore... You have like 40 in the pool which should be good for a long time... You can convert the Ida factory over into something more productive.. You can decide what to convert it to, or leave it turned off until you know what you need.

I usually expand Kate and Val production as you will go through a lot of these if you plan on using your CVs at all.. I usually only expand the smaller factories (less then 30) as you get the most bang for your buck that way... I also only expand the smaller HI locations (less than 30 as well).. Increase Armaments and some AFV. You can also increase repair yards (which don't consume HI at all) as well as merchant and naval yards. But you don't want to do it all at once.. Stagger the improvements - especially the HI and shipyards so you don't run yourself out of supplies.
