SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Gentlemen & Ladies,

I thought I give a glimpse of the extended scenario editor. This is the main editor for creating scenarios from the ground up. Since I believe a picture is a thousand words, here is the beginning.

The start screen of the scenario editor. The editor takes you through a series of "tabs" to help create the scenario.

Second tab...

I skipped a couple of screens... The next few pics will be of the Force Selection Screen for the NATO main body.

This tab allows you to make "global" changes to the entire force.

Now to explain a little bit, this is the screen where you can go through the command tree (to the right) and touch each unit making changes as you see fit. Also you will note there is a Subunit pane. This is were if you can add or subtract indiviual platforms.

And the final screen for today... This is the Master List for the entire scenario. The blue circle I have drawn is showing the subunits, but more importantly the thing (see red arrow) I use the most is the Export to .CSV (which is a comma seperated value (text file)) that takes your work out to a file that I use Excel to edit values. I am a lot.

Normally what I do for blending the scenarios together is create the skeleton OOB/TOE and send it out to a CSV file for final editing of Morale, Supply, Unit Tags, Subunit changes, etc. Once I am finished I import the file back into the scenario. Very nice feature. You can even take the CSV file on your PDA during those long boring meetings and work there. [:'(]

[:D] ROTFL - working on a scenario on a Pocket PC, great idea...

Great info BTW. What's this on the next-to-last screen. Lower left corner, "Subunits (0-32 platforms)". What does it mean? I see you only listed two pieces of equipment in this example. I can't see field for entering detailed OOB, like 3x M1A2, 5x M577, etc. but this field looks closest to that (but still somewhat puzzling [&:])

O.

Catgh_MatrixForum -> RE: Scenario Editor Highlights (9/10/2004 7:46:49 PM)

Oleg,

I never noticed the "Subunits (0-32 platforms)" note before. [:D] I believe it is just to let the scenario builder know that they are limited up to 32 "platforms" per unit. Now I don't know why someone would use zero platforms.

Let's see if this picture helps with the OOB. The pic here is of a forward security element for a regiment in road march formation. There are 6 x T80U's, 3 x BMP2, etc... The BTR80K unit is a command vehicle btw. Any unit with a "K" is a command unit for the unit. This picture is for one game counter on the game map.

The example with two "platforms" is a HQ unit (HQ/A/1-11 Cavalry Troop). Notice on the Force tree the highlighted (greyish box) unit, and those are the platforms for that HQ unit.

Now to attempt to answer a future question... Ammo is abstract and basically an estimate the number of 5 minutes rounds of combat the unit has ammunition.

Ah I see, this last screenie explains a lot, so you basically have to list every single unit - you have to put: T80U, T80U, T80U, T80U, instead of 4x T80U or using a drop down list.

Looks great overall.

What happens when you click on "Hardware inspector"? [:D]

Paul Wykes -> RE: Scenario Editor Highlights (9/10/2004 10:39:21 PM)

The Editor is looking really good. The extra info is much appreciated.

Any chance of some screen shots of the "hardware inspector", which I imagine to be some sort of Encyclopedia?

Another query, what air assets are available, and are they controlled by the player? Thanks

Hardware Inspector...

Catgh_MatrixForum -> RE: Scenario Editor Highlights (9/11/2004 1:22:33 AM)

Air Assets....
A10,Alpha,F4E,F15,F16,F111,Harrier,Jaguar,Mig23,Su17,Su24,Su25,Tornado, and a whole bunch of helicopters.

The fast movers are like an arty strike. You set when were and how far to go looking for target. They come in, hope there isn't AAA in the area, do their stuff, move out recycle. There isn't an on map counter for them.

As I was typing you might also be asking of attack/recon helicopters too..
They are there as on map units. The basic list. They have some special rules, but they are pretty much an on map assets that can move and shoot quickly.

Keep in mind Flashpoint is a command oriented game. You don't spend much time looking at the subunits.

Oleg Mastruko -> RE: Scenario Editor Highlights (9/11/2004 2:29:49 AM)

More questions [:D]

Is there any possibility of editing/changing/adding units in the "hardware database"?

O.

Catgh_MatrixForum -> RE: Scenario Editor Highlights (9/11/2004 3:31:59 AM)

Shaking the magic 8 ball... No, not directly I believe.

Once the game ships, we will be watching user requests for platforms (and of course other things) and add to the database and provide via expansion packs and such.

Another question (coming thick and fast now[:)])....

Is this the scenario editor used to make the "quick battles" as well, or is that a seperate item? Thanks

jrcar -> RE: Scenario Editor Highlights (9/11/2004 2:27:22 PM)

Basically the same. No Author notes or briefing notes.

Cheers

Rob
