RoyalOak -> Effect of ground combat on resources ? (9/10/2004 6:36:03 PM)

Does the intensity of a ground combat (lots of air and ground bombardement) affect the chance resources will be damaged on capture ? Or this is only checked once when the base falls, and based only on the number of engineers ?
If the second is true, it's maybe better for the Japanese to bomb every square miles of a base (targeting troops) to destroy engineers before actually taking it.
This way, he can reduce the risk seeing very important bases (Palembang and the like) heavily damaged.
Does not seem a lot logic/historical ...

Checked when the base falls ... and yes, killing off engineers helps.

This is why I look strangely at people who want to pull out engineers from DEI instead of adding *more* to increase the damage done to the Oil centers. [:D]

A bad roll at a couple of the major oil centers spells more trouble for Japan then 10 extra Essex CV's [;)]

Having to spend an extra 100,000+ supply to get oil production is very scary. This is one of the reasons that you can not mess with Japan's economy early on. You must know what you will have to work with before committing to major changes.

Japan produces about 25,000 supply a turn. Out of that, troops eat. What remains is available for repairs and expansion.

If the repairs are eating all thats left, there is no room for expansion or you have to stop feeding the troops. Only so much to go around.

Yes, that is exactly the point. Designing my Japanese strategy, I've rapidly found that it will heavily depends of the state I'll take the bases.
To conduct offensive operations on the second half of 42, I'll need both the KB still intact, and a lot of resources centers in good state.
Do you have a formula of the "destruction check" ?
Does disabled engineers still count on the check ?
Does bombardement destroy the stock of resources/oil ?

That was an easy one [;)]

Frag. Do the Engineers present begin accumulating "destruction Points" (for lack of a
better term) when the base comes under ground attack? Or do they sit around dying
with their thumbs up their fundaments until the base actually falls? Seems like once the
actual assult begins they would start destroying things.

As I understand it, it's only checked once : when the base falls.

BTF, why can't we have all the formulas used in the game ? I come from the boardgames "school", where you can actually calculate everything you want, and predict a probable result.
Here, too often, I can only guess, or run a lot of tests, to have at best a vague idea of how the system works...

I play computer games mainly because the lack of space for setting up the boardgames (everyone who has left The Longest Day 3 years set up in his bedroom will understand [;)]). Now, with the lack of infos on the system, I've a lot of post it everywhere (like the ones to estimate the repair time needed for capital ship), I've printed the map, the rules, a lot of threads of this board. If i continue like this, better to go back to boardgames [:)]

There is something like that on the wish list, but currently it is just a check when the base falls ... the number of eng there increase the damage roll.
