If you have questions for Dr. Niehorster, he's a frequent poster at www.Feldgrau.com....

He also used to reply to emails (but that was before he dropped off the face of teh earth for a few months, haven't tried yet since). So you can probably contact him (I assume his new email is aso on the site).

He's certainly quite good at the stuff he does (some is copied from other web sources, but much is his own research).

Can we get this thread made into a sticky? Or moved into some kind of reference section? It's pretty valuable info.

Caranorn,

1) He had a massive heart attack. You tend to "drop off the face of the earth for a few months" when this happens.
2) His German TOE and OOB is ALL original research from German archives.

1) I had not heard about the heart attack. I do recall some specualtion of him being busy with research for a future publication etc. In any case I was not accusing him of anything, just stating that he used to reply to emails, so now that he's back I expect he will do so once again.

2) I know about his research into the German military organisation, it's actually what I contacted him about a while ago. I originally thought he was only copying other websites (though adding the graphic schemas), so I used to check his pages, but did not contact him until he published his errata for Tessin's on the web.

His website is definitelly one of the best webresources to look for OOB material. Though of course from the strategic wargamer's perspective it has one flaw, not convering the whole war:-). But then I wouldn't blame him for that as what he has provided so far is already invaluable (I plan to use part of his december 1941 OOB for a Malaya campaign game I am thinking of right now (combined arms, though the massive size of the area makes finding a map scale tough (so I begin to understand WitP's design team's dillema a bit better))).

No problem - I just like to see facts instead of speculation - Military Press has picked up Dr. Niehorster's "German World War II Organizational Series," and will continue to publish the series...also, I suggest investing in the following set of books for WitP:

Davis Hughes, "British Armies of the Second World War: An Organizational History," 10 Volumes (so far)

This set includes the CW armies as well - available from The Nafziger Collection site.
