JoeDodgy -> Downloaded - installed - falls over on start up? (9/16/2004 3:45:10 AM)

Hi,

Just dowloaded and installed the latest version - 8.20

Upon attempting to start the game I get a message 'spwaw.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being generated.'

What do I do now? Needless to say it won't work when I try again either!

Mitch.

Point your shortcut to mech.exe
It should start the game but will bypass the startup screens and credit screen.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Have done as you suggest (changed the desktop shortcut to point to mech.exe)

Now when I double click on the short cut I get a black screen for around 3 seconds, then it returns to the desktop.

Anything else I can try/information I can provide?

Hi Joe

I had a considerable thread on this problem in the SPWAW forum some time ago.

As I said then I have had problems running SPWAW from v4 onwards under windows98SE/2000pro and now XP Pro SP2. What is it about Matrix Games? Everything but everything including a large collection of war games from various other companies runs without problem on my setup.

Just llike you when I try to run the game normally (from mech.exe) the screen blanks out for a second or so and then reverts to the desktop. In the end I ran task manager in XP. It showed the games as running. I then double-clicked the entry in task manager and SPWAW was up and running. The same technique works for Battles in Normandy and Korsun SSG games) Give it a try. Don't ask me what the problem is - must be a video card one.
