plaxx -> Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 4:32:23 AM)

Just wondering, when have (or would) you use the scuttle button?

2ndACR -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 4:35:06 AM)

When it is hopeless that the ship will survive. It will also save 1/2 the VP value.

Your opponent only gets 1/2 the VP's if you scuttle the ship.

Belphegor -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 4:38:48 AM)

It's been my experience that it doesn't quite save 1/2.... you sure about that?

10% I believe...who designed this game? The French Navy?[:D] No PC quips please...just referring to Toulon.[;)]

freeboy -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 4:43:06 AM)

10% of what?

2ndACR -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 4:44:40 AM)

I may be mistaken, but I have not watched or tracked the exact amount of VP's.

I just know the other guy does not get full value.

freeboy -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 4:47:28 AM)

Almost positive the rule book says 50% [X(]of corse we know it is not always correct[:-]
Right like I said. 10 % less as per the manual.... I think the 50 figure comes from the amount of damage needed to allow us to scuttle...[&o]

Mr.Frag -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 5:14:09 AM)

Go scuttle your favorate CV then report back how much the score changed [:D]

Halsey -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 5:34:54 AM)

Mr Frag,
If you scuttle a ship, while in a TF or port, does that officer go back to the pool? Or, is he lost forever anyway?

I don't mean the swimming pool either.[:D]

Mr.Frag -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 5:43:08 AM)

I would certainly hope he goes down with the ship. If not, shoot him yourself!

Halsey -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 5:50:41 AM)

Only a man with an extreme case of guilt goes down with his ship.
Is that why Cpt Smith stayed on the Titanic? Because he knew he f----d up?[:D]

Hell, it was only the second time he ran a ship into anything!

Practice makes perfect eh? [:D]

At least he got it right the second time.

Halsey -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 6:13:18 AM)

He had a bigger target to aim for on his second shot. Maybe his eyesight wasn't so good the first time![:D]

Actually, I don't think the scuttle button appears until damage is greater than 90%. Also, you might want to scuttle a very badly damaged ship if you don't want her hogging repair facilities, and you can afford the VP hit. I did that in a game with the OK--she had 93% systems damage. That is actually historical--the Navy could have repaired the OK, but it was decided that repairing and upgrading other ships was more important, so she was simply raised and towed out of the way.

A captain might die when his ship sinks due to other reasons than guilt.

Getting blown to bits in the explosion that finishes the ship off for example.

Staying and trying to direct damage control to a few minutes beyond the "last minute"

The fact that the captain is killed doesn't mean Seppuku. He (and a lot of enlisted men) may just take the big one when the ship goes under.

BaitBoy -> RE: Why/when should I use the scuttle button? (9/17/2004 2:37:26 PM)

I have scuttled ships against the AI and it looks like the other side gets full VPs. Can any one else confirm this?

BaitBoy -> Posible Bug (9/18/2004 4:01:29 AM)

All right, I just scuttled a CL that was worth 20 VP, and when I looked at the sink ships screen it showed that the japanese got 18 points for it. Is this a Bug??????

It's not a bug--that's what's supposed to happen. Basically, you save 10% of the VP value by scuttling the ship yourself. (allows for face-saving--also reduces crew casualties). In real life this was done to prevent the ship's falling into enemy hands--in the game there is no such worry.

You save 10% of the VP value by scuttling a ship. And its not 90% damage to scuttle a ship.. Not sure the exact amount, but its not much.. I've had ships with <20 sys damage and the scuttle button is enabled...
