Ok, I feel stupid asking this, but what is the hotkey to turn on coastal hexes so you can see which hexes are shallow and which aren't? I've used it before but can't remember it. I have the list of hotkeys from the manual here and either I'm blind or it's not on this list. Thanks a ton.

Dr. Duh -> RE: Hot Key question (9/27/2004 6:36:32 AM)

Do you mean "1"?

The manual doesn't list what all the terrain tags mean though... but "Oa" seems to be deep water, and "Ow" or "C<something>" is shallow.

Have you gone to the far bottom right corner of the map? I think that is obscure enough to classify as an easter egg, but there IS a Terrain Chart there! [:)]

No I haven't. I'll check it out. Hopefully it lists what is shallow water for subs. I thought there was a button that would put a "c" or "s" or something in the hex if it was shallow. I know this was in UV, so maybe that's what I was thinking and maybe it's not in WITP.

PeteG662 -> RE: Hot Key question (9/27/2004 4:54:20 PM)

Am I missing something or aren't the color coded hexes already showing shallow or deep like around Singapore being shallow and closer to Phillipines being deep in the China Sea?

michaelm75au -> RE: Hot Key question (9/27/2004 5:28:04 PM)

The code comprises two letters:

The first is (O)cean, (C)oastal or (L)and,
The second is degree of depth/height (?).

DrewMatrix -> RE: Hot Key question (9/27/2004 7:30:39 PM)

The second letter is what kind of coastal/land etc is.

From memory:
Lm = Mountains
Lw = woods (jungle)

You can figure them out by looking at the map with the "1" switch on. The codes are helpful if you have a hex you can't tell as city or jungle (a city at the edge of the jungle).

tanker4145 -> RE: Hot Key question (9/27/2004 7:34:43 PM)

Thanks for the replies. I knew there was a way, just not smart enough to figure it out myself

DrewMatrix -> RE: Hot Key question (9/27/2004 7:36:47 PM)

One of the things I did with this (and with most games) was to a) save then b) push EVERY key on the keyboard (including the number pad, the Home Key in addition to the Keypad Home key. With and without shift, alt, ctrl.

It is amazing what hotkeys games have that are never mentioned anywhere in the manuals[:D]

So did I miss something on Ocean hexes by the color coding? Supposedly there is only deep or shallow and the color on the map denotes the depth......true or not?

Sometimes there is a hex withs ome shallow and some deep color. The letter code is unambiguous. As I understand it the GAME works from a table for each hex, not from the color of the map, so the artist might have a hex colored differently from that table.

I don't know if the Oa code (etc) is from the actual table the game uses or not. Mogami probably knows that (I gather he worked on the map).

PeteG662 -> RE: Hot Key question (9/27/2004 11:20:35 PM)

OK...just making sure as I am not using the hotkeys right now.

khelvan -> RE: Hot Key question (9/28/2004 1:53:19 AM)

For what it is worth, I am 99% sure that I read in another thread that sometimes the map and the text code did not match (that is, some hexes were shallow when they looked deep) and I believe the person who did the data input for the water depth acknowledged a few discrepancies.

A fine and wonderful service would be for you to post all those hotkey options you discover by hard finger work. [:)]

Just trying to be helpful; there are those who seem not to have made it that far in the manual[;)]
