Do only engineering units have a chance to reduce fortifications or do the engineers organic to inf units also have a chance. I'm trying to make headway in china (as china) verus level 9 fortifications and am going nowhere. Do I need to bring in engineering rgt from outside? Thanks

all LCU's can bring down fortifications through combat. Having ENG units present gives you a bonus for bringing them down. They can also in of themselves, reduce the FORT level meaning that in one 'combat' you could reduce 2 FORT levels vs. only 1 if you only have INF LCU's present.

Is it the classification of a unit as engineering that gives the additional chance or do you need a specific type of unit (ie does a base force get the same chance as an engineering rgt)?

both to a degree. Some INF LCU's have combat engineers in their TO&E

Is a combat engineer listed as engineer squad and non comabt listed as engineer?

no. Both ENG and LCU units can have combat engineers. Normal engineers such as those found in construction or seebee battalions have 'engineer' squads for building.

Obviously there's a big difference in assault value between an engineer squad and a combat engineer sqaud but i'm unsure as to what the difference (if any) is betweenst the two in terms of ability (% chance) of reducing a FORT level.
