Xargun -> 26 April 1942 (6/7/2005 3:02:38 AM)

Alrighty back to the game... and some updates..

Numerous useless air raids against chinese bases by both Rob and myself.

Rangoon is once again drawing some fire - the RAF has returned: 47 Blenheim IVs, 9 Wellington IIIs, 6 Hudson Is all escorted by 8 P-40Es came on a bombing run at 15000 feet. They ran straight in 67 zeros and 23 Oscars. The Oscars were at 35000 feet (waiting for high level heavy bombers) and did not participate much, but the zeros sure did. My pilots and AA units shot down 31 Blenheims, 8 P-40Es, 4 Hudsons and 2 of the Wellingtons. I lost 1 zero and 1 Oscar, with 6 zeros damaged. The RAF scored 1 runway hit !! A clear victory for the japanese air force once again...

Rob's bombers from PM hit an IJN AP with 2 bombs near Gasmata killing members of the 4th Regiment onboard and setting the AP aflame.

I launched an attack on Lanchow which suffered horribly. I achieved 0:1 odds with a level 8 fort and the attack was crushed. I claimed 1477 enemy troops (38 guns) but lost 167092 troops, 420 guns and 11 vehicles - not a good attack.. Did not even lower the fort... Not sure what to do here other than bomb, bomb and bomb some more...

My sub commandos captured Woodlark Island without a fight as well.

Xargun -> 27 April 1942 (6/7/2005 3:10:55 AM)

I spotted an enemy PT TF near Balikpapin last turn and turned my PG/PC TF from ASW into surface combat TF and they intercepted the 2 Dutch PTs. In a brief nightime battle, my 10 PG/PCs sunk the 2 remaining Dutch PTs without suffering a hit in return. A good victory by my baby warships.

An IJN Bombardment TF snuck up on Baker Island and hammered it. 3 BBs and 7 CAs hammered the island before fleeing under cover of darkness. Unfortunately Rob must not have much there as the destroyed no aircraft, and only caught 95 men and 1 gun. They also scored 1 Airbase, 2 runway and 1 port supply hit.. At least I destroyed some supplies if nothing else.

I have also landed a full division on Roxas. They will take the base and then march overland to take the last remaining allied base in the Philippines.

The RAF appeared over Sian: 28 Blenheim Is and 24 Blenheim IVs bombed the AF there. They scored 1 airbase and 13 runway hits. I lost 1 Nate in the raid and damaged no RAF planes.

And Rangoon gets hit again - imagine that - this time by the heavies. 2 Hudson Is, 60 B-17s and 47 LB-30 Liberators were escorted by 21 P-40Es. They came in at 10k feet. They were met by 48 zeros and 24 Oscars. It was a decent air battle in which I claimed 20 B-17s, 11 Liberators and 7 P-40Es. In return the RAF shot down 5 Oscars and 5 zeros. The heavies made it through and ripped up the AF and engineer units there. 402 IJA troops and 6 guns were damaged in the raid. The raid also landed 17 airbase, 1 supply and 41 runway hits. The RAF caught 21 zeros and 16 Oscars on the ground [:@] Good performance by the actual planes in the air though.

(plus 16 destroyed on the ground)

Xargun -> 28 - 30 April 1942 (6/7/2005 3:28:58 AM)

It seems Rob has changed his direction. He is now bombing Heavy Industry in China hitting the HI at Sian with over 50 RAF bombers. They scored 4 HI hits according to reports and I cannot confirm the actual damage done as Sian has previous HI damage from when I took it that has never been repaired so I cannot tell if he actually hit any or not.. But the HI in China is bonus and I'm not worried if he bombs it flat.. The resources, oil and manpower is far more important to me.

Rangoon got hit again - this time by a very small raid consisting of 7 fighters and 6 Hudson Is. My CAP shot down half the attacking force while losing 1 plane in return.

A small IJN TF encounters some mines at Truk and a PG hits one, crippling it. Thankfully it could disband at Truk (and Truk is large) or else the ship would have been lost. I have hit numerous allied mines - and have not noticed Rob hitting any of mine.. Either my mines are useless or I am simply unlucky... or both.

This turn Rob hit Shanghai with his Liberators inflicting 5 HI hits. Looks like Rob is gonna continue hitting my HI in china and I can't really stop him... Only my zeros can bring down his heavies and I don't have enough to place them everywhere enough to cause any real harm to his heavies.

I have started my pre-invasion air attacks on Batavia striking at the AF there. My first attack consisted of 21 Zeros escorting 36 Sallies and 89 Lillies. 2 Enemy Brewsters were on CAP and they were both quickly shot down by my zeros. They scored 28 airbase, 9 supply and 178 runway hits. This is a good step to shutting down one of his larger AFs left in the DEI.

More B-178s hit Rangoon AF again getting a few runway and airbase hits. They came in at 33k feet above my zeros.

April 30th, 1942

The turn starts off good the IJN. IJN SS I-171 catches a small allied TF consisting of 5 DDs and puts a torp into DD Lamson, setting her aflame and adrift. I-171 escaped unharmed.

Rob's Liberators and B-17s appeared over Hong Kong and bombed the HI there scoring 26 hits. As per other baes I am not sure how much actual damage was inflicted but I do not believe it was much as there are not that many HI damaged - and I have repair turned off for them. Over 20 bombers were damaged in the raid.

Air raid #2 over Batavia was almost as effective as the first raid. 18 Sallies, 66 Lillies, 26 Nells and 27 Betties hit the AF again scoring 12 airbase, 3 supply and 139 runway hits. My escorting fighters also claimed the 1 Brewster on CAP and another B-17s on the ground. The AF at Batavia is severly damaged now and seems to be mostly inoperable [:)]

LR Naval Bombers from Kendari struck at Broome's port catching a MSW there and hitting her with 1 bomb. Over 40 bombers attacked, but only scored 1 hit on the MSW and nothing else. 2 Nells were lost in the raid - perhaps this will remind Rob that northern OZ is not a safe place to disband ships.

More B-17s struck Rangoon again from 33000 feet. This time the raid was even less effective that yesterday scoring only 1 airbase and 1 runway hit.

Rob is still hitting the AF at Lae - he must be scared I will position planes there to bomb PM.. Hmmm.. good idea.. So I will build an AF elsewhere within range and let him bomb Lae all he wants.

Xargun -> 1 - 3 May 1942 (6/7/2005 3:41:20 AM)

May 1st, 1942

My MSW TF encounters and clears a bunch of mines at Tarawa which is good since I am basing a large number of TFs there for the re-invasion of Canton.

My ASW efforts near Japan score a hit on allied SS S-42, hopefully sending it to the bottom - although it will probably just limp home and survive to fight again.

I tried a nightime air raid on PM AF but I only scored 2 runway hits, killing 1 Kittyhawk fighter. Not that impressive.

Guess what ? Rangoon got hit again... 17 RAF fighters escorted in 25 Blenheim Is and 47 Blenheim IVs at 20k+. They were met by 38 zeros. I lost a total of 1 zero and 1 oscar (on the ground) while my CAP and AA shot down 1 Buffalo, 3 Blenheim IF fighters, 3 Blenheim Is and 6 Blenheim IVs. The RAF raid scored 2 airbase and 1 runway hit. Another air victory for me over the RAF.

May 2nd, 1942

My MSWs encounter and clear mines at both Truk and Palembang. Damn Rob and his minelaying plans.

I tried another nightime air raid on PM - again they performed poorly - only 1 airbase and 1 runway hit.

Rob's heavies reappeared in the skies over Hong Kong, hitting the Manpower there. They claim 7 hits, but actually hit nothing.

B-17s from Oz struck at Amboina's oil today, scoring 1 hit. Looks like he is going for the oil now too. Hmm.

May 3rd, 1942

Now my MSWs encounter mines at Kwajalein.. Hmmm.. Looks like I have mines everywhere...

Rob had been basing his heavies at Yunan so I bombed it. My bombers claimed 2 airbase, 4 supply and 12 runway hits, as well as 1 B-17 and 1 LB-30. Not bad I guess.

Just to be safe I struck Batavia's AF again, scoring another 1 supply and 17 runway hits only using 18 Sallies. My raids here have taken a toll on the AF and on the engineers and support personel too.

21 B-17s hit Amboina again, claiming 2 oil hits - but in reality hit hard, causing 11 hits [:@] The oil here is down to 38 (from 50) now and I am not repairing it. It is too easily bombed from Northern Oz. I won't waste supplies fixing oil that he can destroy at whim.

My ASW efforts pay off again this turn hitting two allied subs near Japan. SS Saury and SS Greenling both get hit by ASW aircraft flying from Japan.

Good news is in 16 days the Yamato will be built and will escort my freshly repaired CVs to Malaya for the push north to Adaman Island and points further.

Xargun -> Future Plans (6/7/2005 10:44:00 PM)

Well I thought I would give a brief update on my plans for Canton, Baker, Palmyria, etc... Islands.

I have spotted Rob's CVs south of the Solomons - I love recon plane subs. Not sure what he is doing there unless he believes I am heading for Lunga or Noumea. I have had units sitting in Japan for months now with Lunga and Noumea, as well as a lot of other bases, as their destinations as a ruse to try to trick his intel - perhaps it worked ? But as long as his CVs are there I can strike Canton without much threat.

I am assembling a full division (objective: Canton) as well as several smaller combat units (2 Guard units I believe and a large SNLF too) so I should be able to take the island. I have 3 CVs ready to offer air support as well as 3 BBs, 7 CAs and a bunch of smaller ships for offshore bombardments. The Bombardment TF will go in first and hammer the base (and airfield) for a day or so then the airplanes will come in and hammer the troops. I should be able to land all my troops before Rob can react from the southern Solomons in time to stop the invasion - and with Betties/Nells at Tarawa (with zeros) I'm not too worried if he does - another shot to sink his CVs without risking my own.

Once Canton falls, I can base aircraft there and easily invade Baker Island. Then I will begin landing my troops at Palmyra and Johston Island as well - I have troops all setup for those invasions and they are anxious and ready to go.

Xargun -> The game (8/4/2005 4:56:49 AM)

Well I have not heard from Rob in over a month - last message was that he was real busy at work and he thought he had lost one of his marine divisions... So it looks like the game is over... I am still trying to contact him, but for now its over and done with.

Tom Hunter -> RE: The game (8/4/2005 6:37:04 AM)

Frustrating, too damn bad

Brausepaul -> RE: The game (8/4/2005 11:11:12 AM)

Sorry to hear that, bud [:(] There was another PBEM partner who was looking for him. But I don't give up the hope.
