I downloaded the small patch for people that had already updated to v. 1.21 and had no sound or video problems. But when I tried to start the game, it crashed at the opening screen and a message box which said "Fatal Error: 818"

What gives? I have a brand new PC and it has been running WITP fine until this patch.

Don't know the compiler 2by3 uses so you'll need to flip your details to support@matrixgames.com to reference the error #

It's probably some kind of access denied on a file (either trying to open or create)

I had the same error but I reinstalled 1.20 patch and then the 1.30 patch and it worked.
I use win xp. Thought it might work for you.
