This is most likely due to a quirk in the air combat routines, but you sure don't get to see it every day.

Whatever tactics he has devised need to be passed on quickly.

Seriously, I wonder what the best single mission recorded was?

I think Hans Joachim Marseilles has the record for one sortie. Can't remember off hand but it is like 10-15 aircraft or there abouts. Vs the RAFin North Africa so it was not like he shot down twelve John Denvers.

If Rowan's Battle of Britain is anything to go by, it's hard to rack up multiple kills even if you are good (and the computer bad [;)] ) because in a Spitfire at least, you simply don't have enough ammo to put down more than a couple of planes...

Specially bombers, with a Spitfires little .303 rounds.

One of the record holders in WW II was a Finn, Jorma Sarvanto, shooting down 6 Soviet bombers in under 5 minutes. No idea who has the most kills for one day, though.

Marseille had 17 kills on September 1st 1942 in 3 sorties.

in a PBEM i have a jap who shot down 6americans on his first mission.......against PH...my highest allied one was in 1.21 a dutchman above palembang...with 5betties in a single flight
