breaker2 -> Security Key for SPWAW 8.2 (11/10/2004 7:08:32 AM)

Hi Folks,
I have just joined this Forum after having downloaded the 8.2 Generals Edition of SP:WaW (returning to SP after a long hiatus). The descirption on the Matrix site said that the program is totally free, but on downloading the whopping 450Mb+ file and installing it in XP, I get a security key window asking for Name and Key. A number was included in the name of the installation program, but that doesn't appear to work.

Is this not a free program after all? Can I download a previous version that is actually free? I'm emulating XP on a Mac and want to see if the game works..........

Thanks for any advice!

The generals edition is not free. Thats because you get the mega campaigns included. You have to pay some where around 80 dollers for that. Dont even know how you downloaded it with out paying for it. You have to download 8.2 SPWAW without the mega to be free.

Thanks for that Robot. Actually, I'm wondering if I downloaded the right file after all? The name of the download I have is:

SteelPanthersWorldAtWarSetup-v820.exe

If this is not the Generals Edition, then it's the free version of the game, right? Why then do I have this Security Key requirement? No matter what I do, I can't get past it.
Cheers all!
Greg

Back again...solved the problem thanks to KG Erwin's Advice: change the target file to: "C:\Matrix Games\Steel Panthers World At War\MECH.EXE"

Salute!

Now to revisit SP after a long absence.....looking forward to it! [:)]

Congrats on gettin up and runnin. Enjoy the game as all of us here have for the past few years. The diversity alone makes it all worth while. Few games now a day s have very little diversity to them. Most of them are repitious in what you can do with them. I am a long campaign player against the AI. I dont know if its just me because it seems to me every battlle works out different to me.

I am sure you could play the mega campaigns over several times and each one would work out different too. Good luck to your endevers.

Thanks for the wishes Robot...I fully agree with you about diversity and would add that support for more seroius simulation games is important in ensuring that diversity continues to be available for our enjoyment.

Noting your mention of mega campaigns, should any of these be available in the free version of SPWAW? When I click the Mega Campaigns button, I get an empty menu....no campaigns to be had! Is something wrong or do I need to download them separately?

Thanks in advance from what I can see is a very helpful forum!

Greg

Mega Campaigns are not included in the free version. You should have an empty list.
The MC's are a tremendous effort on part of the programmers; there should be a page somewhere on the Matrix site that describes them. You have to pay to play any of the MC's.
