SteveV -> AVG Upgrade (11/12/2004 7:46:27 AM)

OK, I am about to give up.

Situation: June '42. AVG is in Chandpur. It is assigned to the SE Asia area. It is in the same hex as the SE Asia HQ. It has 160K in supplies in the hex. There are oodles of P40E's available.

It will not allow upgrade. I do not know what else to try.

Can someone please stop me from banging my head against the wall in frustration?

Thanks!

SteveV

Isn't AVG attatched to the China Command?

How many air craft are there un pool? Enough to upgrade the air craft you have or the full group of 72?

Try dividing the unit to to avg a b c (button bottom left corner of screen) , then try to upgrade the individual units.

SteveV -> RE: AVG Upgrade (11/12/2004 4:20:12 PM)

The number available might be the problem. I only have about 40 odd pilots, but have 66 P40E's available. Maybe they want all 72 available.

I will try the subdividing to see if that does the trick.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Thats you problem then, you will need 72 air frames to do the hole group you will be able to upgrade two of the divided units. You'll have to wate for the extra 6 planes before doing the rest.

Much obliged. It seems conterintuitive since there are less than 72 pilots availble, but now I know.

Thanks!

Halsey -> RE: AVG Upgrade (11/13/2004 1:20:28 AM)

Bobs right. It's better to upgrade 1/3 of the unit at a time. That way you'll still have some fighters around if you need them.

This is also a good way to upgrade the B-17's. Do it a 1/3 of group at a time, and you'll see the early models jump from one squadron to the next. It's the fast way to get to the E model.

Actually it will work for all the big 72 plane groups. You just have to keep an eye on them. Do it manually. Don't let the computer pick and choose. It might upgrade West Coast planes when you need the new ones up at the front.

I leave the AVG in the B models...they have a longer range. You lose 2 hexes of range upgrading to Es.

PeteG662 -> RE: AVG Upgrade (11/15/2004 4:17:33 PM)

I agree with Rogue on this one as well. Leave them as B models and upgrade other units so the range can assist the short legged hurricanes that appear in India.

I agree as well. I'm playing Scen 16 and it's late February and my P-40B's are split between Imphal, Chandpur, and Dacca. Together with the Hurricane Squadrons they have been pretty good at chewing up Japanese bombers coming in. The Hurricane is nice but has no legs at all and the P-40's keep them from being overwhelmed. The P-40's will also prove useful as escorts since in a day or two some freighters will arrive carrying a BG of B-17E's and another of LB-30's. Just because it's early 1942 doesn't mean I don't get to have fun! [;)]

Cheers,
