Og -> How much supply gets destroyed by a hit? (11/12/2004 4:37:14 PM)

Good Sirs;

I see supply hits when I bomb a port (sometimes fuel hits). Is every hit the same size (like 10 tons or 100 gallons or whatever) or does it matter if it was hit by a 500 or 250lb bomb (or an 8inch shell if it is a bombardment)?

What are the variables that govern the probability of a supply hit. If a port is small and over-stocked is it more likely to take a hit than a large port almost out of supply?

Does the MDL level or DL level of the base matter?

Thanks for your time.

yours
Og

after a lengthy discussion on this the last time it came up, + a test or two or three it was confirmed that the supply loss per Supply "hit" is 1% of the base total

Thanks Nikademus;

What about the other factors. What governs the probability of a supply hit?

Experience of the bombing pilots. Disruption of the bombers (from flak and enemy fighters)

However repairing airfields, ports, disruption, replacing casualties caused by bombing also causes supply loss well above that 1 %.

correct. If your under siege it may be worthwhile to forgo activities such as air ops, fort building or even defensive bombardments. All depending on your supply pipeline.

Facing this situation right now at Singapore 1/20/42.

One percent? Hardly worth the effort......

I always thought it was 10%.

So is the percentage of the total before damage or does it always stay 1%? Say for instance that you hit a base with 1000 fuel. One hit would be 10 gallons right? Well after that one hit the fuel would be at 990. So if on the next turn you hit it again would it take away another 10 gallons or would it calculate a smaller number based on there being less fuel?

It is impossible to answer that. I ran a bunch of tests and posted them here somewhere. It was not always 1%, there was some variation. If you use 1% you will be close. You will never know exactly how much you destroy. As noted above, once you get supplies down to a low level, the usage by the defenders will be more than you can destroy by bombing, but by bombing you keep the destruction level up causing more supply usage. The important thing is to keep new supplies from coming in if you are trying to starve a base of supplies. If you are the Allies, just destroying supplies is enough since Japan only gets a limited amount to use.
