Halsey -> Supply Drain (11/16/2004 1:13:22 AM)

Jesus H Christ! I land 40000 supplies at Akyab, and two turns later they are dispersed to bases with absolutely no ground units!. Now there are 6500 points left.[:@]

Should I even bother risking ships to move supplies in India. I didn't plan on the supplies I sent to feed the advancing IJA.[&:]

Is this like a free "power up" that you get in some arcade games for the advancing armies?[X(]

Twotribes -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 1:19:13 AM)

I waited till the Japanese were close to taking Rangoon before I resupplied Akyab, it didnt go anywhere as by then they had Rangoon and were astride the rail line to the interior.

Of course I lost 4 or 5 AK in the process.

Halsey -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 1:25:00 AM)

That's why I tried it earlier. I was trying to avoid the long range air.

Guess I'll go back to one ship transport missions for Akyab. Too bad, the extra supplies are already dispersed.

pfnognoff -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 1:42:18 AM)

There was another thread with the similar topic recently, and there I've posted that my supplies went from Port Moresby (stacked with troops and AC) to Buna (empty). Good news is that after I've started my air offensive, some of the "stray" supplies came back from Buna.

Also, I've planned to use Brisbane as a major base, had tons off fuel coming in, unloaded all, more then 250K and after a turn only 90K remained. The rest went all over Australia to the strangest of places.

It looks like we just need much more suplies to make AI routines happy [:D]

Or, we can wish that they read that other thread and use the idea about implementing the "Don't send supplies" switch that can be toggled to tell the AI that we don't need supply at certain bases.

freeboy -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 2:44:32 AM)

are you sure they distributed? sometimes supplies go bad.. read the novel "When Good Supplies Turn Bad, or How my Peaches Turned to Penicillin"
seriously though, smaller bases suck for supplies
it is called something other than going "bad" ? forgot the term the game uses for oil/fuel/supplies being reduced..

No, it's not "spoilage." And the drain is annoying. I'm having trouble keeping 20,000 supply anyplace in Australia to upgrade a/c. As someone else pointed out, it's also bad in PM where you may need to stock enough supply to be able to upgrade and also withstand a siege during which little supply may get through. Tossing it over to Buna for the Japanese to take is, well, annoying. Guess they changed it to make it easier to get supply forward in remote areas - like Akyab.

freeboy -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 3:43:48 AM)

sorry to find your post interestingly odd.. I do not have any problems at all getting lots of supplies in OZ, but the hqs pull supplies to the base they are in if below 20k.. I have lots of large bases and have seen spoilage.. I actually was on my way back to correct it after seeingthe calculating spoilage line in a replay

Mike Scholl -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 4:00:35 AM)

It wouldn't be so annoying if the stupid AI would stop forwarding supply to "empty"
bases. Or even better, pull it out of them. The PI is woefully undersupplied when
the game starts, and it is made worse because a lot of what is there seems placed
primarily to support Japanese activities. Same is true in Malasia and much of the
DEI. It's one of the things that makes a wildly ahistoric Japanese advance possible.
The next time someone is cooking up one of these wildly extreme deployments for
the Japanese so they can run over half the map in 30 days, they should try letting
their opponants re-deploy the Allies as well.

freeboy -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 4:47:11 AM)

Mike, I completely agree, and would add that it might be a nice feature to be able to stop the auto distributiona as well as auto manufacturing in some areas, and add a toggle to destroy burn, supply/ fuel etc

tsimmonds -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 4:50:43 AM)

Supply requested by a base should be under the players' control within the limits of the road/rail net.

2ndACR -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 4:51:22 AM)

Not just the Allies are effected by this. I have over 150,000 oil/res sitting in the northern most Japanese base in Japan that has no industry what so ever. So only trickle amounts get to where they are needed. I dump oil/res in Sasebo and it will all wind up way up north in a few days time.

Took all of the coast of NG and dumped 30,000 supplies in Hollianda to begin a buildup there only to see 2 turns later every little base along the coast with 2-3,000 supplies all of a sudden. I even have a HQ with air units at Hollianda.

The pull and push of supplies and resources is a mystery to me. The Japan thing is the most annoying and worrying thing for me though. I have some heavily industry bases in Japan that never have more than 1000 oil and 2200 resources in them. Does not matter if i manually dump a bunch in there, it all flows up north.

CommC -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 7:27:01 AM)

Yeah, we need to be able to toggle on and off the auto resupply of all the bases. This needs to be addressed in the 1.4 patch, or sooner.

Sredni -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 9:39:25 AM)

Nothing more annoying than over 400k supplies in chandpur and diamond harbour, and 4 or 5 hexes to the NE on the rail, a base with 2 hq's and 15 cripple units and rebuilding air squadrons won't go over 12k supplies. Meanwhile akyab seems to relish spitting away any supplies you port there, but won't suck any for itself.

Then mytikyin goes from 6500 supply to 21000 in a turn, and then promptly falls to 15k the next. All over dirt tracks.

Then port moesby ships 8k supply to buna so the japs don't get hungry after they take it.

Then darwins sitting on over 150k fuel, but when you drop 180k fuel on brisbane it disperses over the whole continent.

meh [8|]. I think ideally a 3 way toggle would be a great addition. With an "accept supply" a "don't accept supply" and a "don't release supply" switch. And if we're talking fantasy a number you could input into a base and have it build up to that amount of supply would be great too [:D].

2ndACR -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 3:07:07 PM)

Going to punt this up before it gets buried.

Feinder -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 3:27:57 PM)

Now if I could only get my TROOPS to ride on those lightning fast monorails that deliver the supplies from over trails. Gawd those supply trains have some great transit times! Any chance I can get my troops to ride them?

sounds like something they did just for the AI to stay supplied. only thing is it messes up our own plans. this should definitely be a toggle switch!

Captain Cruft -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 6:43:12 PM)

I agree - "Manual Control of Overland Supply" needs to be a toggleable option. Same for Oil/Resources as well.

2ndACR -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 6:55:18 PM)

I would love to see it happen. As it stands now, only islands can be used for massive supply build ups for a future operation.

I can not even keep manila full of supply and that is where all my troops there are located, yet every single base that is empty has 7000 supply points in it. Manila is sitting at 18,000 supply.

Come on Kid, Mike Wood, Joel can this be done?

Feinder -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 7:16:36 PM)

You'd have to set it for each base tho, some sort of flag that says "auto-overland supply" or not.

While I wouldn't want supply flowing from PM to (empty) Buna, I would want supply flowing along the rail net in India.

2ndACR -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 7:18:37 PM)

works for me. Any way to limit the "suck all my supply to a hole of a base just because it can" is an improvement.

Also I want the toggle to be for oil/resources too.

Chaplain -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 7:25:40 PM)

I could support this. It's reasonable and realistic.

byron13 -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 9:06:05 PM)

So you all have notice this only in v1.3, right? I agree that this must have been a fix for the AI to get more supply in tough spots, but jeez.

I used to use Sydney as a safe supply hub to either move stuff the east coast or around to Perth and then Darwin, but I can't keep enough supplies there to forward. For the time being, maybe we have to use islands for storing supply - if you can find one with enough improvements where you won't lose to spoilage.

Nikademus -> RE: Supply Drain (11/16/2004 9:27:09 PM)

almost sounds like a good thing. It is rather easy to move massive amounts of supply and dump them, even with the spoilage rule. [;)]

When Streel is around, Smead will not be far behind and then those two just turn every thread into their own personal insult thread. Both can be pain in the a**es.

Halsey -> RE: Supply Drain (11/17/2004 11:05:29 AM)

I would much rather see supplies spoil at a larger increment than to have my quartermaster feed the enemy.[;)]

Or, have supplies destroyed upon capturing an enemy base increased.
