Fossiili -> Installing different versions of SPWAW (12/9/2004 9:09:55 AM)

I wanted to install versions 7.20, 8.20 and 8.30 on the same WindowsXP computer.

First I installed 8.20 as usual to 2 different folders SPWAW820 and SPWAW830. Then I started the 8.20>8.30 uppdate and asked to install uppdated version to SPWAW830. Now when I start SPWAW it's 8.30 as it should be.

But although I try to start mech.exe or something else from the directory SPWAW820 the version I get running is always 8.30 [&:]

What to do?

Are you sure that running the mech.exe from the 820 folder?

If you're sure - try this ...
Uninstall the 820 folder and reinstal it and be sure not to run the 830 upgrade again.

This is a bug. Just ignore it. Version 8.2 and above get the version information from a registry key that is global to that computer so even though it really is version 8.2 it will still say 8.3 if one copy of 8.3 is present on the computer.

Score one for Minefield's technical prowess. [:D]

I have installed SPWAW in two different folders, to be safe, in two different drives (C: and D:). But all of the files seems to be same, equal size and date. The only difference is the one I SUPPOSE is version 8.20 with special OOBs, I use it in PBEM with certain people.
Can anyone tell me wich of the files differ between 8.20 and 8.30?
Is there anything one can do with the version 8.30 what can not be done with 8.20?

I'm pretty sure 8.3 is mostly OOB & scenario fixes.

Any major changes in the game would have to be code changes to the executable,
and we've seen the last of those officially from Matrix.

If you just want to confirm it is different, send me a v8.3 PBEM (don't bother with any units or stuff) and I'll open it to see if I get a security violation. minefield@spwaw.com

Alternatively, open the 8.3 folder and sort files by date modified. The new oob's should have a different date modified (date modified=date created in this case).

There aren't really any new features in 8.3 over 8.2. I was trying to find a readme to say exactly what was changed but can't find it at the moment.
